‘Yellowstone’ Season Three Tops Disc Sales Chart

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Yellowstone: Season 3 debuted at No. 1 the week ended Dec. 12 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales in the United States. It was No. 6 on the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.

A DVD gift set of all three seasons of the Paramount Network series landed at No. 12 on the domestic disc sales chart. Season one was No. 38 and season two was No. 51.

With the success of the latest season and the gift set, which sold out at Amazon, Paramount announced that the show’s three seasons have cumulatively sold 1 million copies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

The No. 1 Blu-ray Disc seller the week ended Dec. 12 was Disney’s live-action Mulan, which was No. 6 on the overall disc chart.

Otherwise, holiday titles continued to dominate disc sales. The previous week’s top seller, 1989’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, from Warner, dropped to No. 2 overall and remained No. 4 on the Blu-ray chart.

Warner’s Elf was No. 3 on the overall disc chart and No. 5 on the Blu-ray chart, while Universal’s animated The Grinch was No. 4 overall and the No. 2 Blu-ray. Rounding out the overall top five was Warner’s The Polar Express, which was the No. 10 Blu-ray.

Paramount’s Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, a new edit of The Godfather Part III from director Francis Ford Coppola available only on Blu-ray, debuted at No. 3 on the high-def disc chart. It was No. 17 overall.

A new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition of 1990’s Total Recall helped push the Lionsgate-distributed sci-fi actioner back onto the charts at No. 23 overall and No. 9 on the Blu-ray chart.

The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Dec. 13 saw Paramount’s Fatman take over the No. 1 spot. The film, which stars Mel Gibson as a gun-toting Santa fighting for his life against an assassin hired by a kid who’s mad about his Christmas presents, was made available for disc rental at Redbox a month before its wide DVD and Blu-ray release.

Lionsgate’s Unhinged remained No. 2, with Mulan falling to No. 3 after spending three of the previous four weeks in the top spot.

Paramount’s Buddy Games was No. 4, with Disney-owned 20th Century’s The New Mutants at No. 5.
