Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Batman reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the U.K. Official Film Chart the week ended June 22 following its release on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Claiming the second-highest opening week on disc of the year so far, The Batman generated nearly double the sales of its closest competition, including 93% of its final tally on physical copies, including 22% on 4K UHD.
The week’s highest new entry, Paramount Pictures’ video-game sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 — once again starring James Marsden and Jim Carrey, plus the voice of Ben Schwartz as Sonic — finished No. 2 based on digital sales only. It was the biggest-selling title of the week on digital, finishing well ahead of former No. 1, Top Gun, which finished in the No. 3 spot.
Also new on the chart this week is Warner’s Morbius, which finished No. 4 on digital sales only. The Marvel story, starring Jared Leto and Matt Smith, sees Leto star as the eponymous biochemist who inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism while trying to cure his own rare blood disease.
The studio’s long-running sci-fi remake Dune (No. 5) climbed two spots to land just ahead of British biographical comedy-drama The Duke (No. 6), which climbed six spots to enter the top 10 for the first time. Based on a true story, The Duke stars Jim Broadbent as a taxi driver who steals Goya’s painting The Duke of Wellington from London’s National Gallery in 1961.
Finally, several chart mainstays held their place in the top 10. Warner’s The Matrix Resurrections (No. 7) dropped three spots, while MGM/Universal’s No Time to Die held on to the No. 8 spot. Dropping six spots was the studio’s animated sequel Sing 2 (No. 9) and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Spider-Man: No Way Home at No. 10.
