Warner Home Video’s Mortal Kombat fought its way up to No. 1 on the U.K.’s weekly Official Film Chart (ended July 14) following its release on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and 4K UHD Blu-ray.
With 82% of its total sales this week on physical formats, the video game-inspired movie relegated the previous week’s four-week chart topper Godzilla vs. Kong to No. 2, while Zack Snyder’s Justice League held on for a third consecutive week at No. 3 — underscoring Warner’s ongoing domination (70%) of home entertainment retail.
This week’s highest new entry, classic 1996 Looney Tunes-meets-real-life comedy Space Jam, launched straight to No. 4 thanks to a brand new 4K UHD Blue-ray Disc release, as the franchise gears up for the long-awaited sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy featuring LeBron James, which releases in U.K. cinemas July 16.
Warner’s Tom & Jerry scampered up one spot to No. 5, finishing narrowly ahead of the week’s highest chart climber, Universal Pictures’ The Croods, which rocketed 25 spots to No. 6, a brand-new peak for the franchise, which also sees its sequel released in cinemas this week.
Multi-Oscar winner Nomadland (20th Century Studios’ Searchlight Pictures) fell two spots to No. 7, followed by 2017 “X-Men” spinoff Logan at No. 8, which entered the chart for the very first time thanks to a new 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc release.
Finally, Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon finished at No. 9, while Wonder Woman 1984 (Warner) bowed at No. 10 for a second week.
