‘Violent Night’ Delivers No. 1 Debut on DVD and Blu-ray Sales Charts
February 2, 2023
Universal Pictures’ Violent Night debuted at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart the week ended Jan. 28.
The actioner depicts a drunken Santa (David Harbour) who stumbles upon a mansion during an armed heist and must fight his way out. It earned $49.7 million at the domestic box office and saw 60% of its total unit sales come from Blu-ray.
The top seller the previous three weeks, Warner’s Black Adam, slipped to No. 2 on both charts. The DC superhero film stars Dwayne Johnson as the title antihero, an ancient warrior freed from a 5,000-year imprisonment.
The No. 3 seller on the overall disc chart, and No. 4 on the Blu-ray chart, was Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick.

The No. 4 overall seller, and No. 3 Blu-ray seller, was Lionsgate’s The Dentist Collection, a Blu-ray two pack of the two 1990s “Dentist” movies starring Corbin Bernsen as an insane dentist who tortures his patients.
Warner’s Elvis stayed at No. 5 overall, and No. 7 on the Blu-ray chart. The No. 5 Blu-ray was Lionsgate’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, which was No. 6 overall.
The No. 6 Blu-ray was the 1998 crime drama Belly, newly released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Lionsgate. As Violent Night didn’t have a 4K release, Belly was the No. 1 seller among the Ultra HD format.
The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Jan. 29 also had Violent Night at No. 1, pushing Black Adam to No. 2.
Universal’s Ticket to Paradise was No. 3, followed by Top Gun: Maverick at No. 4 and Sony Pictures’ The Woman King at No. 5.
