March 11, 2022
Kino Lorber April 5 will release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc two classic French films from the 1970s, The Body of My Enemy and Armageddon.
Both films will be released under the indie film distributor’s Studio Classics line, in the original French, with English subtitles.
The Body of My Enemy is a 1976 thriller from director Henri Verneuil that stars Jean-Paul Belmondo, Bernard Blier, Marie-France Pisier, and Daniel Ivernel. In this stylist revenge story, François Leclercq (Belmondo) once romanced the beautiful Gilberte Liégard (Pisier), daughter of a powerful textile baron (Blier). Now only hatred holds them together. Framed for murder and imprisoned for seven years, François returns to his hometown seeking vengeance. He needs friends. And friends are hard to come by in his town.
Bonus features include a new audio commentary by film historians Howard S. Berger, Steve Mitchell and Nathaniel Thompson.
Armageddon is a 1977 thriller from director Alain Jessua that stars Alain Delon, Jean Yanne, Renato Salvatori, Michel Duchaussoy, and Marie Dea.
Delon portrays an Interpol psychologist who must stop a madman from triggering Armageddon when a repairman named Louis Carrier (Yanne) uses his newly inherited fortune to launch a campaign of terror that will make him a household name. Becoming more and more mentally unstable, Carrier threatens the police and various government institutions while operating under the alias “Armageddon.” Delon heads the investigation and prepares a trap at an international conference of world leaders in Paris.
Both releases feature new audio commentaries by film historians Howard S. Berger, Steve Mitchell and Nathaniel Thompson, along with the original theatrical trailers.
