‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Tops U.K. Home Entertainment Weekly Sales Chart for Ninth Time

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Top Gun: Maverick topped the Official Film Chart for the ninth time the week ended Dec. 7. The sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun — also starring Tom Cruise — continues to resonate with consumers on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and 4K UHD Blu-ray while holding off competition from winter holiday classics and other blockbusters.

Will Ferrell’s classic performance in Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s  Elf rebounded two spots to finish No. 2 as the biggest transactional VOD seller. The surge pushed Warner’s biopic Elvis to No. 3, followed by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Downton Abbey: A New Era to No. 4.

Universal’s Jurassic World Dominion retained its No. 5 spot, with the animated version of The Grinch at No. 6 due to the second-highest volume of digital sales. Warner’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore finished seventh, just ahead of disc combo of Top Gun and Maverick.

Warner’s 1991 classic Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (No. 9) entered the chart for the first time following its release on a limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc collection. Co-starring Morgan Freeman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Alan Rickman, the film features Kevin Costner as the title character in a retelling of the classic story.

Finally, in the No. 10 spot, Warner’s The Batman extended its chart run to 28 weeks.
