‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Skyrockets Q4 Paramount Home Entertainment Revenue 28%

Paramount Pictures’ box office hit Top Gun: Maverick remains a fiscal gift that keeps on giving throughout the distribution ecosystem.

Paramount Global’s “licensing and other” business segment, which includes home entertainment, saw fourth-quarter (ended Dec. 31, 2022) revenue increase 28% to $833 million, from $651 million in the previous-year period. For the fiscal year, revenue topped $2.46 billion, from $2.42 billion in 2021.

Maverick ended 2022 as the No. 2 best-selling packaged-media release, despite only launching in retail channels on Oct. 31. The movie was released on premium VOD and premium electronic sellthrough on Aug. 23.

Paramount Pictures recorded six No. 1 box office movies in 2022, which included Smile, the studio’s biggest global horror movie and the studio’s third biggest revenue driver behind Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Oscar-nominated Maverick.

Quarterly revenue increased 35% year-over-year to $936 million, from $694 million in the previous-year period. Theatrical revenue for the year increased 149% year-over-year to $3.7 billion, from $2.68 billion in 2021.
