‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Returns Atop Early 2023 U.K. Home Entertainment Sales Chart

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Top Gun: Maverick has entered 2023 back on top of the Official Film Chart as the top-selling home entertainment release in the U.K. through Jan. 4. The Tom Cruise-starring sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun had finished No. 2 in the last week of 2022 behind perennial Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Christmas classic, Elf, which dropped to the No. 7 spot.
Maverick ended 2022 as the top-grossing theatrical release with $1.48 billion in global ticket sales.
The home entertainment sales podium was completed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s top-selling 2022 release: The Batman, and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Jurassic World Dominion. Collectively, the three movies have spent 66 weeks on the sales chart since their retail releases.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s action-comedy Bullet Train upped its sales seven spots to No. 4, while Warner’s biopic Elvis remained steady at No. 5, finishing ahead of the studio’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore at No. 6.

Entering the top 10 for the very first time was Paramount’s horror movie, Smile at No. 8. Sosie Bacon stars as Dr. Rose Cotter, who experiences terrifying occurrences she can’t explain, after witnessing a traumatic incident involving a patient.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, leapfrogged 12 spots to No. 9, while Universal’s Downton Abbey: A New Era returned to the top 10.
