‘Top Gun: Maverick’ No. 1 on DVD and Blu-ray Sales Charts for Fifth Week

Holiday sales come and go, but Top Gun: Maverick remains constant.
Without much in the way of new competition, Paramount Home Entertainment’s Top Gun: Maverick remained No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Dec. 3.
It also returned to the top spot on the 4K Ultra HD disc sales chart.
The week’s top new release, Warner’s Don’t Worry Darling, debuted at No. 35 on the overall disc sales chart, and was No. 30 on the Blu-ray chart. The 1950s-styled psychological thriller starring Florence Pugh had 53% of its unit sales come from Blu-ray formats — 11% 4K and 42% regular Blu-ray.

With most stores engaged in a variety of holiday-season sales, most of the sales charts were dominated by catalog titles or recent but not exactly new fare. Top Gun: Maverick outsold the No. 2 overall title, Universal Pictures’ 2018 animated The Grinch, by a 4-to-1 margin.
Rounding out the top five overall sellers were Universal’s Jurassic World Dominion at No. 3,Universal’s 2000 live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas at No. 4, and Paramount’s 1883: A Yellowstone Origin Story at No. 5.
Jurassic World Dominion was No. 2 on the Blu-ray chart, followed by Warner’s The Batman at No. 3, Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: No Way Home at No. 4, and Warner’s Dune remake at No. 5.
The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Dec. 4 also had Top Gun: Maverick at No. 1 a fifth time.
No. 2 remained Screen Media’s Poker Face, a thriller from Russell Crowe. Don’t Worry Darling debuted as the No. 3 rental.
The No. 4 rental was Vertical’s vigilante thriller Savage Salvation, available early on disc at Redbox. Sony Pictures’ Bullet Train dropped two spots to No. 5.
