‘Top Gun: Maverick’ No. 1 on Disc Sales Charts for Ninth Week; ‘Halloween Ends’ Tops Blu-ray Chart

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Top Gun: Maverick remained No. 1 for the ninth consecutive week on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, the week ended Dec. 31.
The reign matches the nine weeks Disney’s Frozen held the top spot in the first half of 2014, when it was No. 1 for eight straight weeks after its debut and added a ninth week later in the year). Maverick‘s run of nine consecutive weeks is the longest for a single title in decades.
However, Maverick‘s streak of topping the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart came to an end after eight weeks, a record for the longest reign in the format’s history.

The No. 1 Blu-ray Disc the week ended Dec. 31 was Universal Pictures’ Halloween Ends, the concluding chapter of the trilogy of rebooted sequels to the original 1978 Halloween. The film was also the top newcomer on the list of overall disc sellers for the week, at No. 2.
Cinedigm’s trendy horror sequel Terrifier 2 debuted at No. 3 on both charts.
Halloween Ends had 66% of its total unit sales come from Blu-ray Disc formats (31% 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, 35% regular Blu-ray), while Terrifier 2 had 70% (26% 4K, 44% regular Blu-ray).
Halloween Ends was No. 1 on the chart of dedicated 4K Ultra HD discs, with Maverick at No. 2, and Terrifier 2 at No. 3.
Warner’s House of the Dragon: The Complete First Season was No. 4 on all three charts.
Rounding out the top five overall and Blu-ray Disc sellers was Sony Pictures’ The Woman King. Paramount’s Pulp Fiction re-release was No. 5 on the 4K disc chart.
The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Jan. 1 had Universal’s Ticket to Paradise in the top spot for a third week, again followed by Woman King at No. 2.
Top Gun: Maverick was No. 3, followed by Halloween Ends at No. 4, and Sony Pictures’ Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile at No. 5.
