‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Becomes Longest No. 1 Selling U.K. Home Entertainment Retail Release

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Top Gun: Maverick has become the longest-reigning top-selling home entertainment release in the United Kingdom. The Tom Cruise-starring sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun has racked up eight weeks atop the Official Charts through Nov. 30, surpassing the previous record held by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Trolls World Tour, which spent seven non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2020.

Maverick finished the week with more than twice the sales of its closest competition, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Elvis (No. 2), with nearly 80% of its final sales from DVD, Blu-ray Disc and 4K UHD Blu-ray copies.

Meanwhile, Universal’s Downton Abbey: A New Era rebounded two spots, while catalog title Elf (Warner) fell two spots to No. 4. Universal’s Jurassic World Dominion finished the week at No. 5. The studio’s The Grinch, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was up four spots to No. 6 as the top digitally-downloaded movie of the week in the U.K.

Warner catalog release, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore finished No. 7 and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s action-comedy, Bullet Train, ended the week at No. 8 . Finally, the collection of Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick (No. 9) and Warner’s The Batman rounded out the top 10.
