‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Tops October Disc Sales Chart; ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Still No. 1 for 2022
November 29, 2022
Disney-owned Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder was No. 1 on the top 10 list of physical-media sales for October 2022, according to the NPD Group’s VideoScan tracking service that compiles DVD and Blu-ray transactions.
The “Thor” sequel had been No. 5 in September despite being available just a few days during the month after its Sept. 27 disc release. It topped the weekly sales charts for three weeks, including the first two weeks of October.
The No. 2 October seller was Sony Pictures’ Bullet Train, released on disc Oct. 18. The actioner starring Brad Pitt was the top weekly seller upon its debut.
Another October disc release, Warner’s DC League of Super-Pets, was No. 3 for the month. The animated film based on DC Comics characters was released on disc Oct. 4.
Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World Dominion, which was No. 2 in September, slid to No. 4 in October.
The No. 5 October seller was Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, which retailers began offering on disc Oct. 31, a day before its announced Nov. 1 street date. That one day of sales was enough to rank it on the monthly chart, and as it subsequently was the top weekly seller for several weeks it will undoubtedly be the top seller for the entire month of November.
The top seller for the month of September, Universal Pictures’ Minions: The Rise of Gru, dropped to No. 7 in October.
