‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Easily Debuts Atop Blu-ray and DVD Sales Charts

Disney-owned Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder had no trouble taking the top spot on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week ended Oct. 1.

The film debuted at No. 1 with 66% of its total unit sales coming from Blu-ray Disc formats (35% regular Blu-ray, 31% 4K combo packs). The 29th Marvel Cinematic Universe film and the fourth “Thor” solo adventure finds Chris Hemsworth reprising the character, who teams with former flame Jane (Natalie Portman) to battle a malevolent force that threatens the universe’s gods. It earned $343.2 million at the domestic box office.

No. 2 for the week on both charts was another newcomer, director Rob Zombie’s The Munsters from Universal Pictures, which sold 28% as many copies as the top seller. The film, released concurrently on disc, digitally and on Netflix, is a prequel to the classic TV series, depicting how Herman and Lily met.

The top seller the previous two weeks, Warner’s Elvis, slipped to No. 3 on the overall disc chart and No. 4 on the Blu-ray Disc chart.

Rounding out the top five on both charts were a pair of Universal releases. The animated Minions: The Rise of Gru slipped to No. 4 overall and No. 5 on the Blu-ray chart, while.Jurassic World Dominion remained No. 5 overall and No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart.

The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Oct. 2 had Sony Pictures’ Where the Crawdads Sing at No. 1 for a second week, with Minions: The Rise of Gru remaining at No. 2.

Elvis dropped a slot to No. 4.

Rounding out the top five were two discs available early through Redbox: Quiver’s Bandit at No. 3, and Vertical’s Emily the Criminal at No. 5.
