‘The Way Back’ Tops Redbox Disc Rentals; ‘Bad Boys’ Returns Atop Digital Chart

With its release on disc May 19, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s The Way Back took over the No. 1 spot on Redbox’s kiosk disc rental chart the week ended May 24. The drama, which stars Ben Affleck as a high school basketball coach looking to recover from alcoholism, has been available digitally since March 24 and was No. 9 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

The Redbox disc rental chart tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at the company’s more than 40,000 red kiosks. The Redbox On Demand chart tracks digital rental transactions.

The top digital title available from Redbox was Sony Pictures’ Bad Boys for Life, returning to the No. 1 spot it last held a month earlier. The action sequel was No. 8 on the disc rental chart.

The previous week’s top Redbox title, Warner’s Birds of Prey, dropped to No. 3 on the disc chart and No. 10 on the digital chart.

Disney-owned Fox’s The Call of the Wild rose to No. 2 on the disc chart.

Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot was No. 4 on the disc rental chart and No. 2 on the On Demand chart.

The No. 5 disc rental was Vertical Entertainment’s Capone, available on disc exclusively on Redbox.

The No. 3 digital title, and No. 6 on the disc rental list, was Sony Pictures’ Fantasy Island, which was the top digital title a week earlier.

Paramount’s animated Sonic the Hedgehog was the No. 4 Redbox On Demand title, and No. 7 on the disc chart.

Warner’s animated Scoob! was the No. 5 digital title.
