‘The Gray Man,’ ‘Virgin River’ Stay No. 1 on Netflix’s Weekly English-Language Film and TV Lists

Netflix subscribers couldn’t get enough of the action in The Gray Man, which was the most-watched title the week ended July 31 with 96.47 million hours viewed. Starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, the movie captuered the top 10 in 93 countries.

Keen viewers might have also caught a few Easter eggs, including Skittles, German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer and the Netflix documentary “Don’t F**k With Cats” in the movie. 

Purple Hearts made romance fans collectively swoon, entering the list week in the second spot with 48.23 million hours viewed. Starring Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine, the film follows a pair who agree to marry solely for military benefits despite their many differences. The Sea Beast continued to take fans on an animated maritime adventure with an additional 21.07 million hours viewed in its fourth week. Romance and action were the genres of choice for the rest of the list with Persuasion garnering 11.07 million hours, The Man From Toronto pulling in 7.62 million hours and Red Notice re-entering the list this week with 4.09 million hours viewed in the 10th spot.

The shocking cliffhangers and romantic twists of season four of “Virgin River” kept fans coming back for more, with the small-town drama in its second week dominating the English TV top 10 with 87.94 million hours viewed. Burning questions abound as fans gear up for season five, which is in production now.

Stranger Things” season four and the Hawkins crew held on strong in the second spot with 57.72 million hours viewed. New entrants to the list this week include survivor thriller mini-series “Keep Breathing” in the No. 3 spot with 48.09 million hours viewed, and documentary series “The Most Hated Man on the Internet,” chronicling one mother’s mission against “revenge porn king” Hunter Moore, in the sixth spot with 24.67 million hours.

South Korean drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” took the top spot on the non-English TV list with 65.63 million hours viewed, while Spanish thriller “Alba” came in the No. 2 spot with 33.52 million hours viewed. New to the list this week was Turkish romantic drama “Another Self,” with 18.1 million hours views, and season two of the Mexican teen drama “Rebelde,” with 15.31 million hours viewed.

On the non-English Films List, Argentinian crime thriller Recurrence debuted in the top spot with 23.16 million hours viewed, appearing in the top 10 in 79 countries. Following Perdida and Intuition, Luisana Lopilato stars in the final film of this trilogy based on the novels by Florencia Etcheves. The Polish family comedy Too Old for Fairy Tales continued with 11.45 million hours viewed in the No. 2 spot. Taiwanese horror Incantation, Filipino romantic comedy The Entitled and Indian action-adventure RRR were also on the list.
