‘Tenet’ Tops Disc Sales Charts for Second Consecutive Week

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Tenet maintained the No. 1 spot for a second consecutive week on both the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Dec. 26.

The thriller from director Christopher Nolan earned $57.9 million from a domestic box office run subdued by the coronavirus pandemic. The film deals with a secret agent who manipulates time in an effort to prevent World War III.

Blu-ray Disc formats accounted for 71% of second-week Tenet sales, down from 82% in week one; the percentage of the film’s overall sales from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray dropped from 46% to 28%.

The No. 2 title on both charts for the second week in a row was 1989’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

The week’s top new release was the Universal Pictures’ The War With Grandpa, at No. 14 on the overall disc chart and No. 16 on the Blu-ray chart. The comedy, about a sixth-grader who declares a prank war on his grandfather (Robert De Niro) in an attempt to win his room back, earned $18.5 million at the domestic box office.

The only other new release to crack the overall top 50 disc sellers, at No. 40, was Sony Pictures’ The Craft: Legacy, a follow-up to the 1996 cult horror hit The Craft.
