‘Tenet’ Tops Disc Sales Charts for Fifth Time in Six Weeks

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Tenet remained No. 1 for a second consecutive week on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Jan. 23.

It’s the fifth time in six weeks the latest thriller from director Christopher Nolan has been No. 1 since arriving on shelves Dec. 15. It was the top disc seller for three weeks after its premiere before slipping to No. 2 two weeks ago, but returning to the top spot last week.

Paramount’s post-apocalyptic actioner Love and Monsters remained No. 2 on both charts.

On the overall disc sellers chart, which had no new releases in the top 20, the third season of Paramount’s popular drama series “Yellowstone” moved up a spot to No. 3.

Paramount’s 1986 action movie Top Gun rose to No. 4 as anticipation builds for the eventual theatrical release of the sequel, which was delayed from last year to potentially this summer. To aid the effort, retailers such as Walmart have been offering an array of tie-in merchandise, such as hats, sunglasses and backpacks.

Rounding out the overall top five was Universal Pictures’ Honest Thief, the latest actioner from Liam Neeson.

On the Blu-ray Disc chart, Warner’s eight-film “Harry Potter” collection was No. 3, followed by Universal’s 1917 at No. 4, and Disney’s live-action Mulan remake at No. 5.

Shout! Factory’s 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray re-release of John Carpenter’s They Live made a bit of a splash, bringing the 1988 sci-fi thriller up the Blu-ray chart to No. 6 (though it didn’t appear in the top 50 overall sellers).
