XYZ Films will release the supernatural slasher film #FLOAT, the directorial debut from Zac Locke, on VOD Dec. 9.
Locke’s writing credits include the 2018 sorority-killings shocker Black Christmas, the comedy-fantasy Country Gold, and The Voyeurs, starring Sydney Sweeney.
#FLOAT is about a river trip gone wrong. Vlogger Kali and her friends are heading to the river for their annual float, but it’s the first time since their friend overdosed and drowned last year. Their partying turns deadly as a sinister paranormal force plunges them into a life-and-death struggle. They turn on each other and proceed to die one by one.
The film stars Kaya Coleman, Scarlett Sperduto, Grant Morningstar, Kate Mayhew, Matt Wise and Christina Nguyen.
Netflix on June 14 said it has acquired the global rights to the Canadian sci-fi sequel Code 8: Part II from Collective Pictures.
The film is directed by Jeff Chan and written by Chan, Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe.
Robbie Amell (“Upload”) and Stephen Amell (“Arrow”) reprise their roles from the first film, Code 8, a 2019 Canadian film about a man with superpowers who works with a group of criminals to raise money to help his sick mother.
The sequel will shoot in Canada later this year and be released globally by Netflix.
In Code 8: Part II, a teenage girl with abnormal abilities witnesses the murder of her brother and subsequent cover up. She enlists the help of an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and his former partner-in-crime (Stephen Amell). Together, they face a unit of corrupt police officers who deploy advanced robotic technology to prevent themselves from being exposed.
Code 8: Part II is being produced by Chan, the Amell brothers and Paré. The executive producer is XYZ Films.
Shout! Studios and XYZ Films announced the upcoming home and theatrical release of the new dark comedy How to Deter a Robber, starring Vanessa Marano (Saving Zoe, The Comeback, “Gilmore Girls”), Benjamin Papac (Greenhouse Academy, “The Walking Dead”) and Abbie Cobb (Mom’s Night Out, Suburgatory).
The film will premiere on VOD, digital and in select cinemas on July 16.
Written and directed by Maria Bissell (Corridor Four), How to Deter a Robber had its festival premiere at Fantastic Fest.
The film takes place during Christmas in a desolate Northern Wisconsin town, where a stubborn young woman and her naïve boyfriend walk into the wrong cabin. They’re forced to face off against a pair of amateur house burglars and protect themselves with Home Alone-style booby traps.
The cast also includes Sonny Valicenti (Mindhunter, Office Christmas Party), Jonah Ray (Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail), Gabrielle Carteris (BH90210) and Chris Mulkey (“Twin Peaks,” Whiplash).
