In a distribution boost for subscription streaming video service HBO Max, Vizio Sept. 1 announced that WarnerMedia’s branded Max app is now available on its SmartCast platform. The access gives millions of Vizio’s monthly ad-supported viewers in the U.S. access to Max directly on their Vizio SmartCast TVs with a subscription.
As part of the launch, Vizio will feature a custom carousel on the SmartCast home screen for users to peruse Max’s select AVOD streaming options. The carousel will include access for up to 13 Max originals, with a rotation of new titles from the broader Max “Free” collection. SmartCast users can check out featured episodes from HBO originals, including “Game of Thrones,” “Euphoria” and “Perry Mason,” in addition to “Love Life” and “Raised By Wolves,” among others.
“Making it easier to access the premium library and programming from HBO through our SmartCast Platform helps us deliver the best possible entertainment to our viewers,” Mike O’Donnell, chief revenue officer of Platform+ at Vizio, said in a statement.
In addition to 4K Ultra HD TV options, the latest Vizio SmartCast TVs include the push-to-talk voice remotes, allowing users to go directly to their favorite MAX show or movie with simple voice commands. Additionally, audiences can use voice navigation through the free SmartCast Mobile app for iOS and Android devices.
“The launch of the Max app on SmartCast TVs is a terrific addition to the vast distribution of the platform, adding to our connected TV footprint and making it easier than ever for our customers to access Max where and how they want,” said Jennifer Mirgorod, head of partner management and partner marketing at WarnerMedia.
