Amazon Prime Video Hires Kelly Day to Run International Operations

Amazon has reportedly lured longtime digital executive Kelly Day away from ViacomCBS International to the newly created position of VP of Prime Video International. Day begins her new position in January, reporting to Mike Hopkins, SVP of Prime Video and Amazon Studios.

Formerly president of Viacom Digital Studios, Day is credited with upgrading the media giant’s digital content and distribution. Under her leadership, VDS created and distributed thousands of hours of premium digital content across Viacom’s global entertainment brands including MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.

During her ViacomCBS tenure, Day spearheaded the acquisitions of both Awesomeness TV and VidCon, an annual festival and conference for online video expanded to Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Mexico and London.

ViacomCBS Completes Majority Stake Acquisitions of Fox TeleColombia and Estudios TeleMexico

ViacomCBS Nov. 23 announced that its ViacomCBS Networks International unit closed the acquisition of a majority stake in the Spanish language content producer Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico from The Walt Disney Company. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico will bolster ViacomCBS’s Spanish-language content production capabilities and expand ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) to capitalize on significant content demand on its global streaming platforms, Paramount+ and Pluto TV, and its linear networks around the world.

VIS will operate Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico as a collaborative partnership with the founding family. Samuel Duque Duque will lead the business. Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico will fall under the direction of Juan “JC” Acosta, president of ViacomCBS International Studios and Networks Americas.

Pluto TV Inks BBC Distribution Deal in Europe

ViacomCBS’s free ad-supported streaming platform Pluto TV has signed a distribution deal with the BBC to distribute branded channels across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain. The FAST platform is launching streaming service in Italy on Oct. 28.

The BBC channels focus new and classic “Doctor Who” series episodes, in addition to dramas such as “Call the Midwife,” “War and Peace,” “Great Expectations” and “The Musketeers,” among others.

“This new partnership with BBC allows Pluto TV to super-serve our European audiences with hundreds of hours of premium BBC drama content that fans know and love, all for free,” Olivier Jollet, SVP and GM of Pluto TV, said in a statement. “Pluto TV continuously expanding content offering is a key component of ViacomCBS’s diversified global streaming eco-system.”

Nick Coulter, director of global new business development at BBC Studios, said the deal gives the venerable broadcaster/producer new distribution channels.

“We are always looking for new ways to bring our talent and shows to audiences around the world,” Coulter said. “Pluto TV will help us reach old fans and new, with some of our best-loved dramas alongside familiar classics.”
