Paramount+ Debuts Romance Collection for Valentine’s Day

Paramount+ has debuted “Peak Romance,” a new seasonal collection featuring more than 200 romance-themed movies and seasonal series episodes.

Released in time for Valentine’s Day, the library includes a curated assortment of love stories spanning from tales of modern love and popular rom-coms to nostalgic ’90s films and twisted romances.

The upcoming new rom-com At Midnight, premiering exclusively on Paramount+ Feb. 10, will join the collection as well as a special Valentine’s Day episode of “Ghosts” Feb. 16.

At Midnight centers on Alejandro (Diego Boneta, Father of the Bride), a hotel manager, and Sophie (Monica Barbaro, Top Gun: Maverick), a movie star. He’s focused on opening his own hotel; she’s trying to concentrate on her new superhero film. When Sophie catches her co-star and boyfriend (Anders Holm) cheating, fate strikes when the shoot brings them all to Alejandro’s hotel in Mexico. Despite their radically different lives, Alejandro and Sophie begin to secretly meet at midnight. 

The romantic episode of the CBS Original series “Ghosts” is called “A Date to Remember.” In the episode, Sam and Jay help Thorfinn create a perfect first date with Flower.

The collection includes more than 10 carousels:

  • “LOL (Lots of Love),” with comedic Valentine’s-themed episodes from shows including “Frasier,” “Drunk History,” “Workaholics,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and “I Love Lucy”;
  • “From Showtime With Love,” which features content for Paramount+ with Showtime bundle subscribers such as Fatal Attraction, The Holiday, “The Twilight Saga,” “The Chi,” “George & Tammy,” Moonstruck, Midsommar and Like Water for Chocolate;
  • “Heartthrobs & Heartbreak,” with unscripted dramas including “Are You the One?,” “All Star Shore,” “Love & Hip Hop,” “The Real World,” “The Real Love Boast” and “Catfish: Trolls”;
  • “Valentine’s Yay!,” with episodes for kids from such shows as “Hey Arnold!,” “Rugrats,” “Peppa Pig,” “Blue’s Clues,” “Paw Patrol,” “Big Nate,” and “Spongebob Squarepants”;

In addition, “The Price Is Right at Night” will feature the episode “Date Night” (Feb. 22) featuring couples getting a chance to win prizes including romantic getaways for two. 

Tubi Set to Stream Original Romantic Comedy Starring Camilla Belle

Tubi, Fox Entertainment’s ad-supported free streaming service, is set to bow Valentine’s Day themed movie 10 Truths About Love on Feb. 11, starring Camilla Belle (Dollface, 10,000 BC). The movie joins new romantic comedies and dramas available on Tubi this month, including Crazy, Stupid, Love., He’s Just Not That Into You, Forever Young, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, 500 Days of Summer and A Walk to Remember, among others.

“The movie has all the ingredients of a timeless rom-com — a budding romance, more than a little mystery, and a charming, breakthrough performance by lead actress Camilla Belle,” Adam Lewinson, chief content officer, Tubi, said in a statement.

Belle plays Carina Franklin, a thriving romance columnist who thinks she’s got life and love figured out … until her longtime boyfriend unexpectedly breaks up with her. At the same time, Carina’s editor hires a new writer, Liam (David Lafontaine, Molly’s Game), to work with her and give the column a male perspective. The two clash over their approach … and sparks fly. To prove himself, Liam offers to help Carina get her ex-boyfriend back. But in the process of proving each other wrong, they begin to realize they may be right for each other.

Vudu Unveils Top-Performing Romantic Movies, Bouquet Offer for Valentine’s Day

Fandango’s transactional VOD service Vudu has unveiled its top-performing romantic movies of all time in time for Valentine’s Day.

Vudu’s top three romantic movies based on total transactions are A Star is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper; Crazy Rich Asians, starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding; and “The Twilight Saga,” starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The top romances, many of which are currently on sale and in 4K Ultra HD, can be found at “Vudu’s Most-Watched Romantic Movies of All Time” playlist.

In a recent Vudu survey of more than 2,000 film fans, 82% of respondents said that watching a movie is their favorite Valentine’s activity, while 83% said they look forward to catching up with both new releases and classics during the month of February.

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Tops Vudu List of Most-Watched Rom-Coms for Valentine’s Day

Over the past two years, “Crazy Rich Asians,” starring Henry Golding and Constance Wu, was the most-watched romantic comedy across the entire United States for Valentine’s Day, according to Vudu’s streaming data.

Vudu is a TVOD service owned by Fandango.

Vudu put together a playlist of more than 20 of its most-watched rom-coms in the Valentine’s Day window. Coming in second place was the 2009 workplace comedy “The Proposal,” starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Henry Golding is the romantic lead again in Vudu’s third-ranking rom-com, 2019’s “Last Christmas,” this time co-starring with Emilia Clarke.

HBO Max is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a dedicated spotlight page called “Straight From the Heart” featuring romantic-themed content.

The page on HBO Max spotlights everything from rom-coms to dating shows, totaling almost 1,400 hours of content.

It includes popular romantic movies such as The Notebook, Crazy Rich Asians, The Photograph, Dirty Dancing, A Star Is Born and You’ve Got Mail; series and flicks for a girls night in, such as 13 Going on 30, The Wedding Date, “Gossip Girl” and “Love Life”; and tragic love stories and bad romances such as The Invisible Man, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn and Cruel Intentions.

FandangoNow Unveils Rotten Tomatoes’ Top Rated Romantic Comedies for Valentine’s Day

For Valentine’s Day, FandangoNow, Fandango’s VOD service, has released a list of top-rated romantic comedies ranked by Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.

Frank Capra’s 1934 classic It Happened One Night is the top pick, while 2017’s The Big Sick came in at No. 2. Two films from 2018 joined the list: Crazy Rich Asians at No. 6 and Love, Simon at No. 25.

“This is a new era for the rom com,” said Rotten Tomatoes editor-in-chief Joel Meares in a statement. “With last year’s Crazy Rich Asians and Love, Simon taking their place among the best of the genre, it’s clear audiences and critics alike are seeking movies that marry fresh, modern-day perspectives with the rom-com conventions we all know and love.”

Rotten Tomatoes’ top 25 best reviewed romantic comedies are, in order:

Story of a Family’s Love Was Top Valentine’s Day Rental at FandangoNow

Valentine’s Day may traditionally be for romance, but it was a story of a family’s love that attracted the most rental views Feb. 14 at on-demand site FandangoNow.

New-to-VOD Wonder, starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay, was the No. 1 rental pick for viewers on Valentine’s Day on the site. The film, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Make-Up, follows a family coping with a boy’s facial deformation and his challenges as he enters junior high.

Wonder is truly one of those films that the whole family can enjoy,” said Fandango managing editor Erik Davis in a statement, “and it makes sense that a film with such heart would rule rentals during Valentine’s week.”

Three other new-to-digital Oscar contenders, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Lady Bird and Coco were among the top five films that fans bought on Wednesday night.

Fandango asked more than 1,000 female moviegoers if they were planning a girls’ night get-together (“Galentine’s Day”) celebration — and if so, which of the Oscar-nominated films would they want to watch with their girlfriends.

The top Galentine’s selection was Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, nominated for five Oscars and available for purchase on FandangoNOW, Fandango’s premium on-demand video service.

Women’s top five Galentine’s Oscar-nominated pics in the survey were:
