Sony’s ‘Devotion,’ Peacock’s ‘The Best Man’ Highlight 2022 Urbanworld Film Festival

Sony Pictures’ Korean War air force drama Devotion is set to headline the 26th annual Urbanworld Film Festival Oct. 26-30 in New York City.

The movie is based on the actions of U.S. Navy’s first black fighter pilot, Jesse L. Brown, and white co-pilot Thomas Hudner, who on Dec. 4, 1950, purposely crashed his Corsair fighter in an attempt to save Brown from his downed jet.

NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock will screen original movie The Best Man: The Final Chapters, followed by a conversation to celebrate and honor the franchise’s director Malcolm D. Lee with the festival’s Full Circle Award.

Romantic comedy The Best Man debuted in 1999, starring Taye Diggs, Nia Long and Morris Chestnut, among others. A sequel, The Best Man Holiday, was released in 2013.

The titles are among more than 100 film entries to be screened, including submissions from the U.K.ColombiaChinaNew Zealand, France, Mexico and Japan.

Other notable U.S. films include Nelson George’s Say Hey, Willie Mays! honoring the iconic baseball legend, and The Melt Goes on Forever: The Art & Times of David Hammons — the artist whose prints, drawings, performances, video, paintings and found-object sculptures have been key to the New York art scene for decades.
