Reprising her role as Mary Jane from the 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Rachel True (“Half & Half,” “Harlem”) joins a new cast for follow-up Half Baked 2.
The film will debut on non-theatrical platforms worldwide in 2023 from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.
Other stars in the follow-up, which has wrapped production in Baton Rouge, La., include Dexter Darden (The Maze Runner, Joyful Noise), Moses Storm (“Moses Storm: White Trash,” “Everything’s Trash”), Ramona Young (“Never Have I Ever,” Blockers), Ash Santos (“True Story”), Joel Courtney (Super 8, The Kissing Booth) and David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, “The Office”).
The film will also feature special appearances by Frankie Muniz, comedian Jeff Ross and original cast member Harland Williams.
Directed by Michael Tiddes (Sextuplets, Naked), the sequel follows Thurgood Jenkins’ son J.R. (Darden) and his best friends Miles (Storm) and Cori (Young) as they search for the money to bury their other best friend Bruce (Courtney), who died from smoking the most powerful joint in the world.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release the animated Bobbleheads: The Movie on DVD and through digital retailers Dec. 8.
The new film from Universal 1440 Entertainment, the studio’s production arm, in conjunction with Threshold Entertainment, Microsoft and NVIDIA, is based on the popular collectible figurine that features a bobbing head.
The voice cast includes Jennifer Coolidge, Luke Wilson, Khary Peyton, Brenda Song, Karen Fukuhara, Julian Sands and Cher. In the film, misfit bobbleheads take on trashy humans and a slobbery dog who crash their home with plans to swap a new baseball player bobblehead for a valuable one of them. With some guidance from Bobblehead Cher, they find the courage to bobble-up for an outrageous battle of wits and wobble.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release Tremors: Shrieker Island on Blu-ray Disc, DVD and digitally Oct. 20. It will also be available for streaming on Netflix at a date to be announced.
The seventh film in the long-running “Tremors” franchise finds Michael Gross returning as Graboid hunter Burt Gummer, joined by Jon Heder as his potential protégé as they take on a batch of genetically modified Graboids terrorizing a tropical island.
The film was produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment, the original content production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and marks the 30th anniversary of the 1990 theatrical release of the original Tremors.
The first film, which starred Kevin Bacon and dealt with large worm-like creatures attacking a small desert community, spawned a series of direct-to-video sequels starting in 1996, all of which featured Gross reprising his Gummer character from the original.
Extras on the Blu-ray, DVD and digital editions (at select retailers) will include “The Monsters of Tremors,” a featurette narrated by Gummer that profiles the Graboids, Shriekers and Ass Blasters; “Tremors Top 30 Moments,” a showcase of memorable moments from all seven movies, from the biggest laughs to the most gruesome kills; and “The Legend of Burt Gummer,” a tribute to Michael Gross from Kevin Bacon, Jamie Kennedy, Ariana Richards and several past and present cast and crew of the franchise.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Oct. 6 will release American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules on DVD and through digital retailers. The film will also be available soon through Netflix.
Produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of UPHE, Girls’ Rules is the fifth entry in the “American Pie Presents” brand, a series of direct-to-video spinoffs of the four “American Pie” film series, making it the ninth film in the franchise.
In the film, it’s senior year at East Great Falls, as Annie (Madison Pettis), Kayla (Piper Curda), Michelle (Natasha Behnam) and Stephanie (Lizze Broadway) decide to finally harness their girl power and band together to get what they want their last year of high school.
Action-drama Backdraft 2will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and digital (including Movies Anywhere) May 14 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
The sequel — from Universal 1440 Entertainment, the original content production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, Imagine Entertainment and Raffaella Productions — stars Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games franchise, Pride and Prejudice, Backdraft) and William Baldwin (“MacGyver,” “Hawaii Five-O,” Backdraft) reprising their roles as Ronald Bartel and Brian McCaffrey, and welcomes franchise newcomer Joe Anderson (“Outsiders,” “Hannibal”).
Fire investigator Sean McCaffrey (Anderson), son of the late Steven “Bull” McCaffrey, is now working at the same Chicago firehouse along with his uncle Brian (Baldwin). When Sean is assigned to investigate a deadly fire, he and his partner Maggie soon realize that they are dealing with something much more than a routine blaze. With the help of infamous jailed arsonist Bartel (Sutherland), they race to find out who is behind the fire and stop them from accomplishing their devious plans.
The sequel also marks the return of the franchise’s original filmmakers, including producer Raffaella DeLaurentiis (Dragonheart franchise, What Happened to Monday, The Forbidden Kingdom), alongside writer and former firefighter Gregory Widen (Backdraft, OtherLife). Backdraft 2 is directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (Apollo 18, The Hollow Point).
A Backdraft two-movie collection will also be available May 14 on DVD.
The fifth film in the franchise, Scorpion King: Book of Souls will come out on Blu-ray combo pack, DVD, digital and on demand Oct. 23 from Universal 1440 Entertainment, the original content production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
The historical fantasy film stars Zach McGowan (Terminator Salvation, “Shameless”) as the Scorpion King alongside Pearl Thusi (“Quantico“, Tremors 5: Bloodlines), Peter Mensah (Avatar, “True Blood”) and Nathan Jones (Mad Max: Fury Road, Troy).
In this latest film in the franchise, the evil warlord Nebserek (Mensah) discovers a cursed sword in ancient Egypt that makes the one who wields it more powerful with every soul it strikes down. Determined to stop his power from growing, the Scorpion King (McGowan) joins forces with Tala (Thusi), the Nubian Princess; Amina, a mysterious woman with a magical and tragic secret; and her golem guardian (Jones) to find the one thing that can defeat Nebserek: the Book of Souls.
Scorpion King: The Complete Collection, including all five films in the franchise, will also be available on Blu-ray and DVD Oct. 23. The collection includes The Scorpion King, starring Dwayne Johnson; the prequel The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior, with Michael Copon; The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption, starring Victor Webster; The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power; and Scorpion King 5: Book of Souls.
The next chapter of the cult-hit “Tremors” franchise, Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell, arrives on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and on demand May 1 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
Michael Gross (“Family Ties,” “Suits”) returns as Burt Gummer, along with Jamie Kennedy (Scream) as his son, Travis Welker, in a new installment filed with quick-witted humor, screwball antics and action-packed thrills.
The story finds Burt and Travis up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters when they head to Canada to investigate a series of deadly giant worm attacks, and comes to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized at a remote arctic facility.
Extras include a making-of featurette, an up-close look at the very first underwater Graboid attack, a look inside Chang’s Market, and commentary from the filmmakers.
The movie will also be part of the new Tremors: The Complete Collection DVD set of all six films in the franchise.
