‘Doctor Sleep’ Wakes Up in Top Disc Sales Spot

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Doctor Sleep debuted at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Feb. 8.

The sequel to 1980’s The Shining, based on the novel by Stephen King, underwhelmed at the domestic box office with just $31.6 million in earnings, but arrives on home video with a new three-hour director’s cut that has been praised as superior to the theatrical version.

Doctor Sleep was the first of four newcomers to land in the top 10 sellers in their first week.

Paramount’s comedy Playing With Fire landed at No. 3 on both charts, Warner’s The Good Liar was No. 7 on the overall chart and No. 10 on the Blu-ray chart, and the romantic comedy Last Christmas took No. 10 overall and No. 9 on the Blu-ray chart.

The previous week’s top seller, Paramount’s Terminator: Dark Fate, dropped to No. 2 on both charts.

Rounding out the top five on both charts were Warner’s Joker at No. 4 and Sony Pictures’ Zombieland: Double Tap at No. 5.
