Breaking Glass Pictures has announced the release of The Sharks, a Uruguayan coming-of-age drama available first for digital download on April 14 and then on DVD April 28.
The directorial debut from Lucía Garibaldi, The Sharks earned him the prestigious Directing Award in World Cinema – Drama at the Sundance Film festival, where the movie premiered. The film also screened at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Guadalajara Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award and the FEISAL Award.
The film follows 14-year-old Rosina, who counts the restless days of summer in her sleepy beachside town until one day she encounters an ominous dorsal fin during a swim. The rumor that a shark was spotted quickly spreads, unsettling the town. Rosina, however, remains unfazed and instead focuses on her enigmatic coworker Joselo.
