Netflix: ‘The Royal Treatment,’ ‘Ozark’ Again Dominate Weekly Streaming

Netflix subscribers streamed nearly 26.5 million hours of original movie The Royal Treatment across 94 countries to place the romantic comedy atop the streamer’s global top 10 feature films consumed in its second week release through Jan. 30.

The film topped newcomer Home Team, which tracked 21 million hours across 69 countries to finish No. 1 in the United States, and Munich: The Edge of War with 17.3 million hours across 85 countries in its second week.

Among episodic programming, the first half of season four of “Ozark ” topped all shows with 96.3 million hours streamed across 74 countries in its second week of access. The critically acclaimed series starring Jason Bateman, Julie Garner and Laura Linney, among others, easily bested season one of new show “The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window” with 40 million hours streamed across 48 countries.

Netflix Jan. 25 reported that part one of the fourth season of “Ozark” generated more than 77 million hours streamed globally in its debut week ended Jan. 23.

The new original movie The Royal Treatment generated 42.5 million hours watched across Netflix’s top 93 countries.

“Ozark,” a critically acclaimed Midwestern drug family drama, has won co-star Jason Bateman a Primetime Emmy for directing, as well as co-star Julia Garner two Emmys for outstanding supporting actress. The dark drama is stringing out the storyline about a couple (Bateman and Laura Linney) who confiscate drug cartel money and then set up shop operating a money laundering operation in Missouri.

Samba TV reported that 2.2 million U.S. households watched the first episode of season four over the first 72 hours. The data company then tracked the show’s binge-viewing appeal. The second episode was streamed by 1.8 million U.S. homes over the same viewing window; 1.5 million U.S. homes streamed episode three; 1.2 million streamed episode four; 1 million episode five; 939,000 homes streamed episode six; and 756,000 homes made it through episode seven.

Separately, romantic comedy The Royal Treatment, which was filmed in New Zealand, jumped to No. 1 among Netflix’s English-language movies. The movie pushed Alyssa Milano’s romantic drama Brazen to the No. 2 spot with 28.5 million hours streamed — ahead of perennial chart topper Don’t Look Up with 17.1 million hours.
