Three independent films are coming to disc in March from Kino Lorber.
The Immortal, due on Blu-ray Disc and DVD March 15, is a thriller from director Marco D’Amore that further explores the characters from the hit crime series “Gomorrah,” which has been described as Italy’s answer to “Breaking Bad.”
The film is set in 1980, when a devastating earthquake sends buildings crashing down. From underneath the rubble, the cry of a newborn baby emerges, who comes to be known as “The Immortal.” From his past as an orphan to his present-day Baltic exile, from his first petty thefts to all-out gang warfare, The Immortal confronts head-on whatever comes his way, and nothing can kill him.
Due March 22 on DVD only is the comedy The Red Star, from director Gabriel Matías Lichtmann, a black-and-white film in Spanish with English subtitles. The Red Star is a mockumentary about the fictional Leila Salama (Thelma Fardín), a mysterious woman who may have contributed to the capture of Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires in 1960, but was neglected by the official history. Her life’s “story” is restored through a series of interviews with a colorful cast of characters.
Closing out the month, on March 29, is another DVD-only release, Brighton 4th, a 2021 Georgian drama from Levan Koguashvili. The film is about a former Olympic wrestler from Tbilisi who helps his adult son in Brighton Beach to get his life on track. It was selected as the Georgian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
