Sometimes, even Spider-Man can’t do it all.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Feb. 4 reported third-quarter (ended Dec. 31, 2019) revenue of $255 million, down from revenue of $320 million during the previous-year period.
Through the first nine months of the fiscal year, revenue from sales and rental of movies and TV shows sits at $615 million — down almost 14% from $713 million during the previous-year period.
The studio’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ranked among the Top 10 packaged-media releases in 2019. Yet, despite the Oct. 1, 2019, release date for Spider-Man: Far From Home, it wasn’t enough to drive revenue growth in the quarter.
