Western ‘Old Henry’ Heading to Blu-ray Nov. 9

Shout! Factory will release the Western Old Henry on Blu-ray Disc Nov. 9. The film from Shout! Studios and Hideout Pictures is currently in theaters and available digitally.

Old Henry stars Tim Blake Nelson as a widowed farmer who along with his son (Gavin Lewis) warily take in an injured man (Scott Haze) with a satchel of cash. When a posse of men claiming to be the law come for the money, the farmer must decide who to trust. Defending against a siege of his homestead, he reveals a talent for gunslinging that surprises everyone, calling his true identity into question.

The cast also includes Trace Adkins and Stephen Dorff. The film was written and directed by Potsy Ponciroli.

Shout! Sets Dec. 3 Theatrical, Digital Release for Action Thriller ‘Castle Falls’

Shout! Studios has set a Dec. 3 multiplatform release for Castle Falls, an action thriller starring Scott Adkins and Dolph Lundgren.

Directed by Lundgren, the film will be released simultaneously in theaters, through digital retailers and on demand. A DVD and Blu-ray Disc release is expected to follow in January 2022.

The film follows rival gangs as they seek out millions of dollars hidden inside Castle Heights Hospital, a symbol of the city’s segregated past that has been packed with dynamite and is ready to be demolished. A gang leader, now in prison, hid the $3 million in cash he stole from his rivals inside the abandoned building. Now, three desperate parties want the money — a blue-collared ex-fighter (Adkins) who finds it while working as part of the demolition crew, a prison guard (Lundgren) willing to do anything to pay for his daughter’s cancer treatment, and a ruthless gang who claim to be the rightful owners.

The film also stars Kevin Wayne, Jim E. Chandler, Luke Hawx, Scott Hunter and Kim DeLonghi.

Fantasy Feature ‘The Show’ Now Available On Demand, Due on Disc Nov. 23

The fantasy mystery The Show from the mind of legendary graphic novel writer Alan Moore was released via VOD Oct. 5, with a Blu-ray Disc release planned for Nov. 23 from Shout! Factory.

Directed by Mitch Jenkins, The Show stars Tom Burke, Siobhan Hewlett, Ellie Bamber, Sheila Atim, Christopher Fairbank and Alan Moore himself.

The story involves Fletcher Dennis (Burke), a man of many talents, passports and identities, arriving in Northampton — a strange and haunted town in the heart of England as dangerous as he is. On a mission to locate a stolen artifact for his menacing client, Fletcher finds himself entangled in a twilight world populated with vampires, sleeping beauties, Voodoo gangsters, noir private eyes, and masked avengers. He quickly sinks into a bizarre and delirious black hole that is hidden just beneath the surface of this seemingly quiet town. Soon enough Fletcher discovers that dreams and reality have been blurred and there might no longer be a real world to go back to.

The Blu-ray edition of the film comes such extras as a “Welcome to The Show” featurette that includes interviews with Moore and Jenkins, as well as Show Pieces, the original short films on which The Show is based.

Shout! Studios Sets Digital Release Dates for ‘Language Lessons’

Shout! Studios has announced the Oct. 26 release of Language Lessons, a collaboration between Natalie Morales (Dead to Me, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Mark Duplass (“The Morning Show,” Bombshell).

The film will be available through digital retailers and video-on-demand (VOD) and  can be pre-ordered now on iTunes.

Language Lessons begins with a man named Adam (Duplass), who is surprised by his husband with weekly Spanish lessons. Unsure about where or how the lessons will fit into his already structured life, he faces tragedy and his Spanish teacher, Cariño (Morales), becomes the lifeline he didn’t know he needed. Adam develops an unexpected and complicated emotional bond with Cariño that may or may not be a result of a traumatic moment they shared.

The film is the winner of the 2021 SXSW Narrative Spotlight Audience Award and the 2021 Provincetown Best Narrative Film Audience Award. IndieWire critic Katie Erbland praised Morales’ work: “Morales’ winning Language Lessons offers one of the best uses of the format yet, a ‘Zoom film’ that utilizes its constraints to craft an intimate, expressive two-hander, no fatigue in sight.”

Shout! Studios Sets Aug. 17 Release Date for ‘Fast Vengeance’ on Digital, Disc

Shout! Studios has announced the Aug. 17 release of Fast Vengeance, an action thriller written and directed by Pearry Reginald Teo (The Assent, Ghosthunters).

The film will be available on major digital platforms, Blu-ray Disc and DVD.

Fast Vengeance follows the story of Shen, who upon hearing of his brother’s death returns to his stomping grounds to find the men responsible and take justice into his own hands. He learns that a biker named Cobra and his gang, The Midnight Squad, were the ones responsible, but to get anywhere close to them, he must enter the dark, turbulent realm of underground motorcycle racing. Enlisting the aid of a drag racing champion-turned-mechanic, Shen must compete in the high-stakes races where he will have only one chance to confront Cobra.

The film stars hip-hop legend DMX (Belly, Romeo Must Die), alongside D.Y. Sao, Natalie Burn, Bai Ling, and Jeff Fahey.

Shout! Studios Sets Home, Theatrical Release for Dark Comedy ‘How to Deter a Robber’

Shout! Studios and XYZ Films announced the upcoming home and theatrical release of the new dark comedy How to Deter a Robber, starring Vanessa Marano (Saving ZoeThe Comeback, “Gilmore Girls”), Benjamin Papac (Greenhouse Academy, “The Walking Dead”) and Abbie Cobb (Mom’s Night Out, Suburgatory).

The film will premiere on VOD, digital and in select cinemas on July 16.

Written and directed by Maria Bissell (Corridor Four), How to Deter a Robber had its festival premiere at Fantastic Fest.

The film takes place during Christmas in a desolate Northern Wisconsin town, where a stubborn young woman and her naïve boyfriend  walk into the wrong cabin. They’re forced to face off against a pair of amateur house burglars and protect themselves with Home Alone-style booby traps.

The cast also includes Sonny Valicenti (Mindhunter, Office Christmas Party), Jonah Ray (Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail), Gabrielle Carteris (BH90210) and Chris Mulkey (“Twin Peaks,” Whiplash).

Shout! Studios to Distribute Bruce Willis Actioner ‘American Siege’

Shout! Studios, the filmed entertainment production and distribution arm of Shout! Factory, has signed an exclusive deal to distribute the new action thriller American Siege from The Exchange.

American Siege, featuring Bruce Willis, recently wrapped principal photography in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Willis plays a washed-up sheriff who guards the secrets of the wealthy residents of Fitzgerald, a quiet town in Georgia. He finds himself in the middle of a confrontation between the town’s mayor (Timothy V. Murphy) and three outlaws who take the town’s doctor hostage.

“Bruce Willis starring in a taut, twisty, nitrous oxide-fueled thriller is about as good as it gets.  We could not be more excited to share it far and wide,” stated Jordan Fields, VP of acquisitions at Shout! Studios.

The cast also includes Corey Large, Cullen G. Chambers, Rob Gough and Johnny Messner. The film is a production of 308 Enterprises in association with The Exchange and BondIt Media Capital.

Shout! Studios has secured all distribution rights in North America, including digital, video-on-demand, broadcast, theatrical and home entertainment for cross-platform releases.

Shout! Studios Nabs Rights to Two Aaron Lee Lopez ‘Teenage’ Comedies

Shout! Studios, the multi-platform entertainment distribution and production arm of Shout! Factory, has acquired North American rights to two young adult comedy features directed by Aaron Lee Lopez, Teenage Girl: Valerie’s Holiday and Teenage Vampire, both from Mutt Productions.

Under the agreement, Shout! Studios gets domestic theatrical and home entertainment rights (broadcast, digital, video-on-demand, and all packaged media) for cross-platform releases. Shout! Studios plans a strategic launch for both films, beginning with the release of Teenage Girl: Valerie’s Holiday on major entertainment platforms later this year.

The deal was negotiated by Shout’s Jordan Fields, VP of acquisitions, and Steven Katz, VP of business affairs, and Dead Rabbit Films’ David Chackler and Nadia Redler, along with Kurt Wipfli for Mutt Productions.

Teenage Girl: Valerie’s Holiday (2019) is about a nerdy teenage girl who pretends to be her beautiful, fake twin sister from California to become the most popular girl in high school and ultimately learns that being yourself is more important than popularity. The cast includes Valeria Jauregui (DeputyIt Came Upon A Midnight Clear), Montana Leann, and Paulina Chavez (Netflix’s The Expanding Universe of Ashley GarciaFeliz NaviDAD).

Teenage Vampire (2020) finds two girls joining the high school cheerleading squad in order to be cool, only to find out the team is infested with vampires. The cast includes Claire Tablizo (Teenage Girl: First WheelsTeenage Girl: Valerie’s Holiday) Jaeden Riley Juarez (It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, Teenage Girl: First Wheels), and Gabby Garcia (Supernatural Activity).

Shout! Studios Bringing Actioner ‘Take Back’ to VOD and Theaters June 18

Shout! Studios will release the action thriller Take Back via VOD, digital retailers and in select theaters June 18.

Directed by Christian Sesma and written by Zach Zerries, Take Back tells the story of Zara (Gillian White) and Brian (Michael Jai White), who are living the perfect small-town life when Zara heroically foils a robbery and becomes headline news. This unwanted notoriety draws elements of Zara’s mysterious past back into her life, putting the lives of her family in danger. When Zara and Brian’s daughter is kidnapped by a sadistic gang of people traffickers led by the vicious Patrick (Mickey Rourke), the pair face a race against time to save her life. With Det. Chalmers (James Russo) also on Patrick’s trail, Zara and Patrick’s paths collide in a final stand-off in the desert.

The cast also includes Jessica Uberuaga, Paul Sloan, Nick Vallelonga and newcomer Priscilla Walker.

Gillian White, who is most known for classic hits like How to Be A Player, Jackie Brown and, more recently, the Netflix film Welcome to Sudden Death, marks “the first black lead female martial arts action star in the history of film,” according to Shout!.

Shout! Studios Wins Distribution Rights to ‘Language Lessons’

Shout! Studios, the multi-platform distribution and production arm of Shout! Factory, April 6 announced it has acquired North American rights to the drama Language Lessons from Duplass Brothers Productions.

Starring and written by Mark Duplass and Natalie Morales, Language Lessons, a platonic love story, marks the feature directorial debut of Morales and was produced by Mel Eslyn. The film premiered at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival.

Duplass plays Adam, whose husband surprises him with a gift of a year’s worth of weekly Spanish lessons. But when tragedy strikes, his teacher, Cariño (Morales), becomes a lifeline he didn’t know he needed and the two develop an unexpected and complicated emotional bond.

Shot in secret during the pandemic with a skeleton crew in Los Angeles and Costa Rica, Language Lessons received critical acclaim out of Berlin and SXSW.

Shout! Studios has secured all distribution rights in North America to Language Lessons, including theatrical, digital, video-on-demand, broadcast and home entertainment for cross-platform releases. Shout! Studios plans a strategic launch of this movie across all major entertainment platforms in North America, beginning with a theatrical launch later this year.

“We’ve been so humbled by the response to our little film, but it was Shout!’s unwavering passion and innovative strategy that won us over in the end,” Duplass said. “Can’t wait for this one!”

The movie deal was negotiated by Jessica Lacy at ICM Partners for Duplass Brothers Productions and Shout’s Jordan Fields, VP of acquisitions, Julie Dansker, head of new content sales, and Steven Katz, VP of business affairs, for Shout! Studios.

Language Lessons is a masterfully acted, sharply crafted, and profoundly entertaining portrait of friendship by Natalie and Mark,” Fields said. “It leaves you hopeful that real human connection can blossom in the uncongenial world of screens.”
