Series ‘Save Our Squad With David Beckham’ Bows on Disney+ Nov. 9

The U.K. original series “Save Our Squad With David Beckham” will premiere exclusively on Disney+  Nov. 9.

Co-produced by BAFTA and RTS Award-winning production company Twenty Twenty, and Studio 99, the global content and production studio co-founded by Beckham, the four-episode series sees Beckham return to his East London roots to mentor Westward Boys, a young, grassroots team who are at the bottom of their league, facing relegation. However, this isn’t just any league — this is the same league that David played in as a young boy. Working with the head coaches, he’ll try to turn the team’s fortunes around.

“Save Our Squad With David Beckham” builds on the company’s commitment to source, develop and produce original productions. Across EMEA alone, Disney’s International Content and Operations team plan to create 60 local productions by 2024.


Second Season of Culinary Docuseries ‘How She Rolls’ Due on PBS Living in September

“How She Rolls,” the culinary docuseries that follows the life of baker Carrie Morey, returns for a second season on PBS Living Sept. 12.

The first season followed Morey, an award-winning baker, author, business owner, mother, wife and daughter, as her family and business, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, went through the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, when she learned to balance being a mom with the pressures of being a business owner during a world health crisis.

In the 10-episode season two, she experiences the growing success of her business, which leads to more challenges. New players, rising costs, store closures and health issues create obstacles, but also help her refocus personally and professionally.

“This has been an incredible journey — filming our second season, the tremendous growth of the business, and of course, balancing it all with the ups and downs of family life,” Morey said in a statement. “I hope we are not only entertaining viewers and causing mouths to water over our one-of-a-kind, homemade biscuits, but also providing valuable insights into the demands of being a young company without losing sight of how important caring for your loved ones is.”

The subscription rate for PBS Living is $2.99 per month with an Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. PBS Living is also available on Apple TV Channels in the Apple TV app at a subscription rate of $2.99 per month with no additional annual fees.

Other titles coming to PBS Living in September include “Dr. Lori Mosca’s 3 Keys to Heart Health” on Sept. 6; “Younger Next Year: The New Science of Aging” on Sept. 8; “Motorweek Season 42” on Sept. 13; and “Rivers of Life, Season 2 ” on Sept. 28.

FilmRise Acquires Digital Rights to Reality Series ‘Cheaters’

FilmRise, the New York-based film and television studio and streaming network, has acquired digital distribution rights to the reality series “Cheaters” from Goldstein Pictures Corporation. The deal gives FilmRise digital rights worldwide to the entire series. 

The package contains more than 1,000 episodes (692 30-minute episodes and 346 60-minute episodes) in 21 seasons of the reality series where people who think their significant other is cheating on them hire the “Cheaters Detective Agency” hidden camera crew to investigate their suspicions. The series premiered in 2,000 and has been running for more than 20 years.

“There is no better drama than reality TV and no better guilty pleasure than the binge-worthy series ‘Cheaters,'” said Max Einhorn, SVP of acquisitions and co-productions. “As traditional television viewing continues to migrate to streaming, so should this long-running fan favorite.”

In the United States, “Cheaters” is currently available to watch on VH1 and Pluto TV, while FilmRise currently exhibits the series on the FilmRise app and on The Roku Channel and Amazon’s FreeVee (formerly IMDb TV), with more digital platforms to follow in summer 2023.

“Max Einhorn is indeed ‘Cheaters” unicorn for sure. ‘Is it Cake?’ Renewed for Second Season at Netflix

Netflix has renewed the series “Is It Cake?” for a second season.

The series follows the world’s most talented bakers, who compete to create hyper-realistic cakes that look exactly like everyday objects, in the hopes of fooling a panel of judges, with cash on the line.

The second season will have Mikey Day returning as host and an all new line up of contestants and guest judges.

After premiering in March 2022, the first season of “Is It Cake?” spent four weeks on Netflix’s global top 10 English TV list and reached the top 10 in TV in 75 countries around the world, according to Netflix.

Netflix Renews ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ for Fifth and Sixth Season

Netflix has renewed the reality series “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” for a fifth and sixth season. 

The series has grown in popularity over time, according to Netflix, with season four attracting the biggest audience to date and breaking into the weekly top 10 in 56 countries. 

The new season will once again take fans behind the scenes to witness first-hand how the drivers and teams prepare to battle it out for the 2022 and 2023 championships. The series will offer never-before-seen footage and interviews from the sport’s biggest names.

The series “Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend” is coming to Netflix in 2022.

The “Iron Chef” series reboot features five new Iron Chefs who will welcome challengers to the reimagined Kitchen Stadium, where they’ll face off and cook. The competition’s most successful challenger will return to battle in a grand finale for the chance to be named the first ever “Iron Legend.”

The eight-episode series is based on Fuji Television Network’s format.

Apple TV+ Orders World Surf League Docuseries

Apple TV+ has ordered a six-part documentary series from Box to Box Films and the World Surf League (WSL) offering a behind-the-scenes look at championship surfing.

The series chronicles the aspirations, failures and accomplishments of the world’s best surfers as they battle for the WSL title and struggle to remain on the elite WSL Championship Tour.

Each episode will be an exploration of the characters who make up the 2021 WSL Men’s and Women’s tour, taking viewers on a journey to surfing locations across the globe, starting in Hawaii on Dec. 4, 2020. The docuseries will dive into different surfing cultures, as well as timely subjects tied to the sport including eco-conservation, sustainability and marine preservation.

The docuseries will be produced for Apple by Box to Box Films and in partnership with the WSL.

HBO Max Orders Competition Series Featuring Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel

HBO Max has ordered eight episodes of “The Big Shot with Bethenny” (working title), a new competition series from MGM Television, Mark Burnett, and reality TV veteran, and producer Bethenny Frankel and her B Real Productions.

In each half-hour episode, the contestants will compete for a chance to be second-in-command to business tycoon and Skinnygirl founder Frankel and win a position working on her executive team. Through a series of real-life tasks and challenges, each aspiring mogul will be tested to see how far they can push their creativity and determination to rise to the top.

“I first met Bethenny when I put her on the first season of ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ and she’s always both impressed and entertained me,” said Jennifer O’Connell, EVP of original non-fiction and kids programming, HBO Max, in a statement. “It’s incredible to see her empire continue to grow and I know that candidates will be clamoring to work for her.”

HBO Max Greenlights Christmas-Themed Dating Reality Show

WarnerMedia’s pending HBO Max service has greenlighted the unscripted series “12 Dates of Christmas,” a holiday-inspired dating show to debut next year.

The SVOD service launches in May at $15 monthly.

The series will follow a cast of singles as they step into a real-life romantic comedy full of cozy sweaters, fireside cuddles and mistletoe kisses, all arranged to help them find love — just in time for the holidays.

Their romantic journey begins at a Christmas castle, where the prospective couples will enjoy holiday traditions such as ice skating, sleigh rides and hot toddies after a day in the snow. The singles will ultimately choose a special someone to take home for the holidays.
