‘Dolly Parton’ Celebration, ‘Nova Universe Revealed’ Among Titles Due on PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel in October

Dolly Parton & Friends: 50 Years at the Opry and Nova Universe Revealed are among the titles available on the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel in October.

Dolly Parton celebrates 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry in Dolly Partin & Friends: 50 Years at the Opry, streaming starting Oct. 22. Recorded live in Nashville, the special pays tribute to her songs and career with special performances from Parton and her star guests, including Lady A, Dierks Bentley, Candi Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, Chris Janson, Toby Keith, Margo Price and Hank Williams Jr. Capturing Parton delivering some of her biggest hits on one of the most iconic stages in the world, this celebration of the country music legend’s 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry features new interviews with Parton, guest appearances from some of her superstar friends and more.

Nova Universe Revealed starts streaming Oct. 28. In this five-part series, “Nova” delves into the vastness of space to capture moments of high drama when the universe changed forever. State-of-the-art animation delivers astonishing, photorealistic glimpses of the birth of the very first star, the chaos created as two galaxies collide, and the power of a supermassive black hole as it flings a star across space so violently that it’s still traveling millions of years later. “Nova” even takes viewers on the ultimate time travel voyage to witness the birth of space and time itself. Informed by huge advances in scientific understanding, this series brings viewers face-to-face with the most surprising characters in the cosmos and reveals how their fates are intertwined with their own.

PBS Distribution Launches Lifestyle Content Streaming Service PBS Living

PBS Distribution has launched PBS Living, a new streaming service featuring public media lifestyle content across the food and cooking, home, culture, and travel genres.

The service is available by subscription from Prime Video Channels on Amazon for $2.99 per month after a seven-day free trial.

The channel offers subscribers a curated selection of hundreds of episodes from award-winning series with new content to be added each month. Content includes both classic and current series, such as Julia Childs’s “The French Chef,” “This Old House,” “Antiques Roadshow,” “No Passport Required,” “Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street,” “America’s Test Kitchen” and “Born to Explore.”

“Public television has a long history as a home for unique and compelling lifestyle programs,” said Andrea Downing, co-president of PBS Distribution, in a statement. “We are excited to offer viewers another way to explore their passions and find inspiration through these series, with the convenience of being able to watch anywhere, at any time.”

Select programs are also streaming in PBS Passport, a digital member benefit available through local stations.

Amazon Bows ‘Critically Acclaimed’ Page Showcasing Globally Nominated, Winning Movies and TV Shows

Amazon has developed a niche revenue stream endorsing third-party over-the-top video services through its Prime Channels platform. Now, the e-commerce behemoth has launched a page/link highlighting original and third-party movies and TV shows garnering the industry recognition worldwide.

Dubbed “Critically Acclaimed,” the page showcases movies and TV shows nominated for, and winners of the Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmys, Golden Lion (Italy), Filmfare (India), BAFTA (United Kingdom), Sundance, Golden Bear (Germany), Cannes (France), Golden Leopard (Switzerland), and European Film Academy recognition.

Separately, Amazon released its January slate of new series and movies available for rent, purchase and streaming on Prime Video.
