Last month’s release of the first part of season four of “Ozark” on Netflix completely dominated Nielsen’s weekly top 10 streaming charts through Jan. 23. The debut saw more than 2.9 billion minutes streamed across 37 episodes of the Byrde family drama co-starring Jason Bateman, Julia Garner and Laura Linney, among others.
The tally was almost enough to offset the combined streaming minutes of the next three programs on the chart: Animated musical Encanto with 1.5 billion minutes on Disney+, 1 billion minutes across eight episodes of “Archive 81,” and 732 million minutes for 354 catalog episodes of “NCIS” — both on Netflix.
The week overall was the sixth highest in streaming since Nielsen launched its top 10 charts tracking over-the-top video consumption across household televisions.
“All six of those weeks have been since Christmas 2021,” said Brian Fuhrer, SVP of product strategy at Nielsen. “So, the year really got off to a strong start.”
