Disney’s Luca remained No. 1 for a second consecutive week on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, the week ended Aug. 14. In its second week on disc, the Pixar animated movie fell to No. 2 on the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
The top Blu-ray Disc seller, and No. 2 on the overall disc sales chart, was the newly released Batman: The Long Halloween — Part Two, a direct-to-video animated superhero movie from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Blu-ray disc accounted for 85% of the new “Batman” movie, an adaptation of a 1990s comic book storyline; the first part hit Blu-ray in June.
No. 3 on both charts was Paramount’s A Quiet Place Part II, down a spot from the previous week.
The No. 4 overall disc seller, and No. 17 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, was Warner’s 1996 sports comedy Space Jam.
Another Warner title, the remake of Mortal Kombat, the latest adaptation of the video game, was No. 5 overall and No. 4 on the Blu-ray Disc chart.
The No. 5 Blu-ray Disc seller (No. 6 on the overall chart) was Warner’s Godzilla vs. Kong.
The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Aug. 15 had A Quiet Place Part II in the top sport for a third week.
Paramount’s The Misfits debuted as the No. 2 disc rental, while Warner’s Those Who Wish Me Dead dropped a spot to No. 3.
Another newcomer, the thriller Till Death from Screen Media, entered the rental chart at No. 4, followed by Warner’s Wrath of Man at No. 5.
