Invicta Fighting Championships Inks Deal With Fox Sports Mexico

Invicta Fighting Championships, a subsidiary of Anthem Sports & Entertainment, has announced a five-year partnership with Fox Sports Mexico — broadcasting every MMA Invicta FC event live and in Spanish to its viewers across the country, beginning with Invicta FC 49: Delboni vs. DeCoursey on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

The upcoming Invicta FC 49 event airs live from Sugar Creek Casino in Hinton, Okla., giving Fox Sports Mexico’s audience a front-row seat as the trailblazing promotion presents a night of world-class all-female action featuring top Mexican athletes Montserrat “The Monster” Rendon and Nadia Vera. Rendon is putting her undefeated streak on the line in a Bantamweight bout vs. “The Quiet Storm” Brittney Cloudy, and Vera vs. Shauna Bannon is a Strawweight battle of the unbeatens.

Invicta FC 49 is headlined by Atomweight Champion Jéssica Delboni from Brazil in her first title defense against “Lionheart” Jillian DeCoursey, and also includes Finland’s Maiju Suotama vs. Brazilian knockout specialist Ketlen “Esquentadinha” Souza in the co-main event; as well as Liz “The Titan” Tracy vs. Valesca “Tina Black” Machado in a Strawweight showdown; and Ultimate Fighter alumnus Helen “Iansã” Peralta vs. UFC veteran Poliana Botelho.

MMA Drama ‘Warrior’ Headed to 4K UHD Steelbook Aug. 30 at Best Buy

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc combo pack of Lionsgate’s 2011 MMA-centered family drama Warrior is being re-released Aug. 30 in Steelbook packaging exclusively at Best Buy. 

The film follows Tommy Riordan, an ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past. He returns home and enlists his father, a recovering alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for a mixed martial arts tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. Tommy’s estranged brother Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to provide for his family as a public school teacher, also enters the competition. Set on a collision course with each other, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart.

The film stars Joel Edgerton (The Gift, The Great Gatsby), Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), Jennifer Morrison (TV’s “House,” TV’s “Once Upon a Time”), Frank Grillo (The Grey, The Purge: Anarchy) and Nick Nolte (Affliction, The Prince of Tides).

Special features include audio commentary with writer-director Gavin O’Connor, cowriter Anthony Tambakis, editor John Gilroy and actor Joel Edgerton; making-of documentaries; a gag reel; and a deleted scene with optional commentary.

MMA Film ‘Never Back Down: Revolt’ Heads to Digital, Disc on Nov. 16

Never Back Down: Revolt, the fourth and newest entry in Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s MMA franchise, will be released through digital retailers and on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Nov. 16.

The film revolves around an amateur fighter (Olivia Popica) who is recruited by a trafficking syndicate specializing in elite underground fighting, where her brutal captor (Michael Bisping) forces her to fight or face certain death.

The film was written by Audrey Arkins, directed by Kellie Madison and produced by Craig Baumgarten, David Zelon and Ben Jacques.

Aside from Popica, the cast includes former UFC champion Michael Bisping, Nitu Chandra Srivasttava, Brooke Johnston, Diana Hoyos and James Faulkner.

The original Never Back Down was released in 2008. The film was directed by Jeff Wadlow and stars Sean Faris, Amber Heard, Cam Gigandet, and Djimon Hounsou. The plot follows a conflicted teenager who arrives at a new high school to discover an underground fight club.

Canela.TV Inks MMA Content Streaming Deal With Combate Global

Canela.TV, the first female-owned ad-supported VOD streaming service for U.S. Hispanics, Sept. 2 announced it has entered into a partnership with Combate Global, a mixed martial arts franchise, to feature the company’s MMA library content. The agreement will bring live MMA events to Canela.TV’s 4 million monthly active users on a weekly basis.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring MMA to our platform and our users who love the sport,” Isabel Rafferty, founder/CEO of Canela Media, said in a statement. “It’s our mission to bring new and exciting streaming content to Hispanics — this partnership helps us meet our goals of engaging and entertaining our audience with the content they crave.”

MMA content on Canela.TV will include a collection of new competitors in the sport; country vs. country-style competition; and one-night, single-elimination tournament action.

MMA Action Thriller ‘Russian Raid’ Due on Digital and Disc March 9 From Well Go

The Russian MMA action thriller Russian Raid will come out on digital, Blu-ray and DVD March 9 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

In the film, long after the murder of his father — a secret agent killed in a missile factory raid — an ex-soldier returns to Russia as a mercenary. He leads an elite team on a top-dollar heist targeting the same facility, but no one else knows his true objective is revenge.

Inspired by Gareth Evans’ 2011 martial-arts hit The Raid, first-time director Denis Kryuchkov brought together some of the best MMA talent in Russia for the film, including Ivan Kotik (Dragonblade, Outcast, Legendary), Alexander Krasovsky (winner of the Moscow Championship and Russian Cup in hand-to-hand combat), Elias Antonenko (PsychosThe Legend of KolovratBattle), Vladimir Mineev (world heavyweight kickboxing champion), Nikita Kologrivy, Sophya Ozerova, and Kirill Sarychev (President of the World Raw Powerlifting Federation and world record holder in the raw bench press).

Anthem Sports & Entertainment Streams ‘Impact Wrestling’ in Russia

Anthem Sports & Entertainment Oct. 1 announced a partnership with Rutube.List — Russia’s largest ad-supported digital platform — to begin streaming Anthem’s combat sports platform, Fight Network, and pro wrestling promotion Impact Wrestling to the video service.

Fight Network and Impact Wrestling programming will launch in a VOD-style format, presented in both English and Russian. Rutube.List claims 10 million viewers throughout Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which includes Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Kazakhstan, among others.

Fight Network features more than 300 hours of live sports, in addition to original programs such as “Retrospective,” “Diary,” “In 60” and “After The Fight,” as well as a roster of classic fights and compilations, and series such as “Boxing World Weekly,” “Total Combat,” “International Judo Federation” and “Impact Wrestling.”

Launched in 2002 as a rival to WWE, Impact Wrestling is set to deliver its biggest event of the year next month, when “Bound For Glory” comes to Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 24. The global pay-per-view event is available through FITE TV (order now), Box Nation UK, DISH, DirecTV, Vubiquity, Rogers, Bell, Shaw and Sasktel. Also, it is available on InDemand platforms, including Altice, Cox, Spectrum, Verizon Fios and Comcast Xfinity.

“Russia is a true powerhouse for combat sports, bringing the world some of the top fighters in the business and boasting an impressive base of passionate and knowledgeable fans,” Jaime Pollack, chief revenue officer, Fight Media Group, said in a statement.

Roman Maksimov, CEO of Rutube.List, said the Fight Network channel’s portfolio of  classic wrestling matches, main-event fights include authentic analysis.

“The best and critical moments of combat events and comments come from athletes and experts,” Maksimov said.
