Amazon Celebrates ‘Romanoffs’

Amazon Prime Video hosted the debut of the anthology series “The Romanoffs” Oct. 11 with a screening at The Directors Guild of America Theater in New York City, followed by an after-party at the Russian Tea Room.

The show, from nine-time Emmy Award winner Matthew Weiner (“Mad Men”), follows the stories of different people around the world who believe they are descendants of the Russian royal family.

The international cast includes Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, Amanda Peet, Jack Huston, Corey Stoll, Mike Doyle, JJ Feild, Janet Montgomery, Paul Reiser, Marthe Keller, Kerry Bishé, Griffin Dunne, Cara Buono, Jon Tenney, Radha Mitchell, Juan Pablo Castañeda, Annet Mahendru and Inès Melab.

Weiner introduced a screening of the first episode, “The Violet Hour,” and praised the series’ writers, producers, production designers, composers and cast.

“I would like to make a reference to the fairy dust — this collection of actors who you will see. The strangest thing is we shot these all over the world, this is a truly global TV show,” Weiner said. “I’m so grateful to share this experience with you all and so grateful that we had to have this experience together and that we got to travel the world together and have so much fun together, and that we got to do something as pretentious as tell a story we wanted to tell and the way we wanted to tell it.

“You’re going to be told a story with incredible actors that we made all over the world with a lot of effort to keep you entertained.”
