Anime Film ‘The Wonderland’ Available for Home Viewing Oct. 6

Shout! Factory and Eleven Arts have announced an Oct. 6 home release date for The Wonderland, a 2019 Japanese animated coming-of-age fantasy adventure film directed by Keiichi Hara.

The film will be available for digital download, on demand, as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and also as a standalone DVD.

Based on the 1988 children’s story Chikashitru Kara no Fushigi na Tabi (Strange Journey from the Basement), the film follows the story of a girl named Akane with little self-confidence, who, on her birthday, meets a mysterious alchemist named Hippocrates who brings her through a basement and into a fantastical world full of magic and color. Though things seem peaceful on the surface, he reveals this world is in danger and Akane finds herself being labeled as the Wonderland’s savior.

Bonus features include interviews with the Japanese voice cast, featuring the talent of Mayu Matsuoka (Young Shoya, A Silent Voice) as Akane and audio commentary with character designer and concept artist Ilya Kuvshinov.
