Neo-Noir Thriller ‘After Dark, My Sweet’ Coming to Blu-ray Disc Sept. 12

Kino Lorber Sept. 12 will release the neo-noir thriller After Dark, My Sweet, starring Jason Patric, Bruce Dern and Rachel Ward, on Blu-ray Disc.

The 1990 film, directed by James Foley and based on Jim Thompson’s 1955 pulp-fiction novel of the same name, was a commercial bomb but a critical favorite, with the late Roger Ebert opining in the Chicago Sun-Times, “After Dark, My Sweet is the movie that eluded audiences; it grossed less than $3 million, has been almost forgotten, and remains one of the purest and most uncompromising of modern film noir. It captures above all the lonely, exhausted lives of its characters.”

Patric stars as Collie, a former boxer hired by a sexy widow (Ward) and a cop-turned-con (Dern) to pull off the perfect kidnapping. What neither of the two realize is that Collie is an escapee from a mental institution. When he realizes the widow he’s fallen in love with has  been manipulating him, Collie turns the tables — with deadly results.

The film is being brought to Blu-ray disc from a new HD master made from a 2K scan of the interpositive. Special features include an audio commentary from director Foley, interviews with Patric and Dern, and the original theatrical trailer, also newly mastered in 2K.
