Film Movement to Bow Indonesian Silver Bear Winner ‘Before, Now & Then’ on Digital and DVD Dec. 12

Film Movement will release the Indonesian film Before, Now & Then on digital and DVD Dec. 12.

The film won a Silver Bear for Best Supporting Actress (Laura Basuki) and was nominated for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Set amid the political violence of late-1960s Indonesia, director Kamila Andini’s Before, Now & Then follows Nana, the beautiful wife of a wealthy plantation owner whose inner life remains with her deceased first husband, murdered in the civil war a decade prior. A survivor, Nana values her safety and material comforts, but carries out a haunted existence, dreaming of her lost love. Forced to confront her husband’s blatant infidelity, Nana makes an unusual connection with his younger mistress, Ino. The two women, sharing their secrets and desires, discover a newfound freedom and intimacy withheld from them both by the strictures of patriarchal society.

The release includes the bonus short film Following Diana also directed by Andini. In the film, one night, Diana’s husband presents her with a shocking plan to share their family with another woman.

‘Legend of Gatotkaca’ Due on Hi-Yah! Streaming Service Feb. 17, Disc and Digital March 21 From Well Go

The Indonesian action film Legend of Gatotkaca debuts exclusively on the martial arts streaming service Hi-Yah! Feb. 17, before landing on digital, Blu-ray and DVD March 21 from Well Go USA Entertainment. 

In the superhero origin story, a young man uncovers a secret prophecy that will be key to surviving the battle against an ancient evil. After witnessing the shocking murder of his best friend by a masked assassin with terrifying superpowers, Yuda stumbles upon a secret prophecy long concealed by powerful people. After unlocking dormant abilities of his own, Yuda discovers that he — an ordinary college kid with no belief in the old legends — may very well be the key to winning the upcoming battle against an ancient evil.

Indonesian Superhero Feature ‘Gundala’ Coming to Digital and Disc July 28 From Well Go

An Indonesian comic book superhero and his alter ego enter the cinematic universe in the actioner Gundala, debuting on digital, Blu-ray and DVD July 28 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Based on a popular comic book first published in 1969, Gundala is the first film in a proposed eight-film franchise launching a new superhero cinematic universe (in the vein of Marvel). In the origin story, Sancaka (Abimana Aryasatya) is a security guard who was struck by lightning, giving him superhuman powers and turning him into the superhero Gundala. An Indonesian orphan, Sancaka spent his life on the streets trying to attract as little attention as possible, but when greed and violence reach a fever pitch in Jakarta, it soon becomes clear that he is the people’s only hope for peace.

Written and directed by Joko Anwar (Impetigore) and based on the comic by Harya Suraminata, Gundala stars Abimana Aryasatya (12:00 A.M.), Tara Basro (Impetigore), Bront Palarae (Belukar), Ario Bayu (Java Heat) and Lukman Sardi (Abracadabra).

Gundala had its international premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, and the release features an all-new English dub, in addition to its original subtitled soundtrack.
