Chinese Films ‘Little Q,’ ‘Midnight Diner’ Due on Blu-ray Aug. 17 From Well Go

Two Chinese films, the family friendly Little Q and the comic drama Midnight Diner, are coming to Blu-ray Aug. 17 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Based on a true story, the human-canine friendship film Little Q stars Simon Yam (Ip Man) as a recently blinded chef who forms a bond with his seeing eye dog. The film also stars Gigi Leung (The Monkey King 3), Him Law (The Monkey King 2), Charlie Yeung (Bangkok Dangerous), Shanshan Yuan (Lobster Cop), Angela Yeun (The White Girl), Frankie Lam (The Merger) and Roger Kwok (Kung Fu Mahjong).

The film follows Little Q, a yellow lab with a curious birthmark, who is training to become a guide dog for the blind. When his training is complete, Little Q is sent to help Lee Bo Ting, a famous, recently blinded chef. Irritable and bitter, Bo Ting is at first reluctant to rely on Little Q and even tries to drive him away several times. But through his loyalty, Little Q eventually teaches Bo Ting how to trust again, opening him up to a new life of wonderful possibilities.

Midnight Diner

Based on the celebrated manga series “Shin’ya Shokudo” by Yaro Abe and previously adapted into  TV series in Japan, Korea and China, the cinematic version of Midnight Diner also debuts on Blu-ray Aug. 17. In the film, set in a little restaurant in Shanghai, Tony Leung Ka-Fai (Once Upon a Time in Hong Kong) makes his directorial debut and plays the leading role of a man who makes a set of special food for each guest who visits the restaurant and listens everyone’s story. It also stars Deng Chao (Shadow), Eddie Peng (Operation Mekong), and Vision Wei (Lost in White).

In the film, a small, counter-only restaurant, open daily from midnight to 7, is lovingly helmed by its mysterious owner and chef, a quiet enigma who provides no menu yet can make any dish the customer desires. Year after year, people flock from far and wide to the mysterious Midnight Diner to share their stories, savor delicious home cooking, and finally, to leave refreshed, feeling equally full and ready for their next adventure.

‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Coming Exclusively to Disney+ in 2022

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters in the live-action comedy Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel to the 1993 Halloween cult classic Hocus Pocus, to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.

Midler (The First Wives Club, Beaches) returns as Winifred Sanderson, with Parker (“Sex and the City”) and Najimy (Sister Act) back as her sisters, Sarah and Mary, respectively.

In Hocus Pocus 2, three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.

Hocus Pocus 2 will begin production this fall under the direction of Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses).

Classic ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ Coming to 4K Ultra HD June 29

The family classic Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory will be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray combo pack and 4K digital June 29 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment for its 50th anniversary.

Directed by Mel Stuart from a screenplay by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is an adaptation of Dahl’s 1964 novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”  Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory stars Gene Wilder as Wily Wonka, Jack Albertson as Grandpa Joe, Peter Ostrum as Charlie Bucket, Roy Kinnear as Mr. Salt, Julie Dawn Cole as Veruca Salt, Leonard Stone as Mr. Beauregarde, Denise Nickerson as Violet Beauregarde, Dodo Denney as Mrs. Teevee and Paris Themmen as Mike Teevee.

The musical follows a boy named Charlie who wins a whirlwind tour of Willy’s incredible, edible realm of chocolate waterfalls, elfish Oompa-Loompas and industrial-sized confections.

The family film based on the video game character follows the incredibly speedy Sonic the Hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), aka The Blue Blur, who embraces his new home on Earth. Animated ‘Abominable’ Stomping to Digital Dec. 3, Disc Dec. 17 Including 4K

The DreamWorks Animation film Abominable is coming out on digital Dec. 3 and 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and on demand Dec. 17 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

With the biggest opening for an original animated film this year, according to Universal, Abominable features the voice talents of Chloe Bennet (Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”), Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner Sarah Paulson (“American Horror Story”), Eddie Izzard (Cars 2), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (“Liv and Maddie”), Albert Tsai (“Fresh Off the Boat”), Tsai Chin (The Joy Luck Club) and Michelle Wong (“Scandal”).

The film made $166.6 million at the worldwide box office.

In the story, teenage Yi (Bennet) encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in China. She and her friends Jin (Trainor) and Peng (Tsai) name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth. The trio of friends has to stay one-step ahead of Burnish (Izzard), a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara (Paulson) to help Everest get home.

‘The Swan Princess’ Swims to Blu-ray and 4K Digital Oct. 29 for 25th Anniversary

The animated film The Swan Princess will be released Oct. 29 in a collectible anniversary edition Blu-ray and in 4K HDR on digital from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for its 25th anniversary.

One of the last major theatrically-released films in the U.S. to utilize a hand drawn, hand painted cel animation style, the film went on to receive a 1995 Golden Globe nomination and become the top selling home video title in the United States when first released.

To celebrate the new release, creator and producer Seldon Young is bringing the film back to the big screen for a special Pink Carpet Premiere event showcasing the new, fully remastered version at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood Oct. 24.

“For the restoration and remastering process we retrieved the vintage, vaulted negatives and set to work using the amazing advances in HD conversion technology, to create an even more vivid and stunning film than ever before,” said Young in a statement.

The story is inspired by the German fairytale and ballet about a princess who is swan by day and princess by night. Princess Odette is transformed into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s spell. Held captive at an enchanted lake, she befriends Jean-Bob the frog, Speed the turtle and Puffin the bird. Despite their struggle to keep the princess safe, these good-natured creatures can do nothing about the sorcerer’s spell, which can only be broken by a vow of everlasting love.

The Blu-ray release includes a new featurette entitled “A Look Back, Tease Ahead,” plus a variety of additional archival features.

‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’ Coming to Digital Aug. 13, Disc Aug. 27 From Universal

The family film The Secret Life of Pets 2 will debut on digital Aug. 13 and 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and on demand Aug. 27 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

From the studio Illumination (Despicable Me, Minions, Sing), the animated sequel features the pets and their growing families in a new chapter that explores the deep bond between them and the humans that love them. Again, the film answers the question: What are your pets really doing when you’re not at home? Terrier Max (voice of Patton Oswalt) is coping with major life changes after Katie’s marriage and the arrival of a toddler, Liam. Meanwhile, Gidget (Jenny Slate) tries to rescue Max’s favorite toy from a cat-packed apartment with a little help from her feline friend Chloe (Lake Bell), who has discovered the joys of catnip. And Snowball (Kevin Hart) believes, despite the other pets’ teasing, that he’s a superhero after his owner starts dressing him in superhero pajamas. But when Daisy (Tiffany Haddish), a fearless Shih Tzu, shows up to ask for Snowball’s help on a dangerous mission, he has to summon the courage to become the hero he’s been pretending to be.

Animal Friendship Story ‘Adventures of Dally & Spanky’ Riding to DVD and Digital Sept. 10 From Sony

Adventures of Dally & Spanky, about a real-life dog and pony friendship popularized on the Web, will be released on DVD and digital Sept. 10 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Inspired by the true animal friendship of a Jack Russell Terrier and a rescued miniature horse, the film stars Brenna D’Amico (TV’s “Descendants”), whose father is played by country music star Trace Adkins, and Reylynn Caster (TV’s “American Housewife”) as half-sisters whose animal companions form an unlikely bond.

Elaine Hendrix (The Parent Trap) and Denise Richards (Starship Troopers) also star.

The story follows Addy and Ella, teenaged half-sisters with little in common. When 17-year-old Addy loses her father, she retreats from her family and struggles to deal with his loss.
