Arthouse distributor Facets Multi-Media has set a Nov. 19 DVD release date for Eva Perón: The True Story.
The Argentinian film was directed by Juan Carlos Desanzo, and stars Esther Goris and Victor Laplace.
Eva Perón: The True Story follows the last years of well-known populist icon Eva Perón (Goris), who was the wife of Argentine President Juan Perón and First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952. The film focuses on the political disputes during the last year of Eva’s life, involving women’s suffrage, failed coup attempts against the Peronist government, and Eva’s failed bid for the vice presidency.
The film originally aired on Oct. 24, 1996, and was awarded three “Cóndor” awards by the Argentine Film Critics Association in 1997. It was selected as the Argentine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 69th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Originally released by Media Home Entertainment, the film features a young man named Pedro (Armendáriz), who is dimwitted but immensely strong. He is conned into harassing tenants that his boss (Soler), a Mexican landlord, and his mistress (Jurado), want evicted. The brute has seemingly good intentions, but his acts of violence cause death and fear in those around him.
