Disney+ Original Docu-Series Showcasing Lives of Celebrities Bows Sept. 18

Disney+ Aug. 18 announced that all 10 episodes of the original docu-series “Becoming” will premiere exclusively on the SVOD service on Sept. 18. Created by ESPN Films and co-executive producer LeBron James, the series tells the stories of 10 athletes, entertainers and musicians, including Adam Devine, Anthony Davis, Ashley Tisdale, Caleb McLaughlin, Candace Parker, Colbie Caillat, Julianne Hough, Nick Cannon, Nick Kroll and Rob Gronkowski.

Shot in vérité, each episode centers around a visit to the celebrity’s hometown, touring important locations central to their upbringing.  A supporting cast of family members, coaches, teachers, mentors and friends are interviewed, sharing anecdotes and insights into the personalities’ “becoming” story.

Interestingly, the title is identical to an original Netflix documentary series about former First Lady Michelle Obama, looking back at her life and connections with others during her 2019 book tour for Becoming.

‘The Last Dance’ Draws 23.8 Million International Household Viewers for Netflix

The Last Dance, the documentary series about basketball star Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls championship team, attracted 23.8 million households outside the United States on Netflix, the service announced May 20.

The miniseries, a co-production of Netflix and ESPN Films, aired on ESPN in the United States April 19 through May 17 with each episode being made available the day after airing to international audiences via the SVOD service.

“23 was always his lucky number! 23.8 million households outside the U.S. checked out The Last Dance in its first four weeks on Netflix,” the service tweeted.

Jordan’s jersey number was 23.
