Sony to Bow Dramedy ‘Downtown Owl’ Digitally April 23

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the dramedy Downtown Owl for digital purchase April 23.

In the film, searching for a break from her cosmopolitan life in Milwaukee, Julia Rabia (Lily Rabe) arrives in the closeknit Reagan-era town of Owl, North Dakota, for a one-semester high school teaching job. But when the small town turns out to be a wonderland of second-string poets, smoldering Marlboro Men, and a social hierarchy that echoes high school, Julia doesn’t know if she’s come to town to get away from home or to find it.

‘Seriously Red’ Headed to Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand March 21

The dramatic comedy Seriously Red arrives on Blu-ray (plus digital), DVD and on demand from Lionsgate March 21.

Written by the film’s star Krew Boylan, Seriously Red is a celebration of various 1970s country music artists including Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. It also features popular Dolly songs such as “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.”

In the film, Red (Boylan) has lost her job as a real estate agent, but there’s something no one can take away from her: her dream of becoming the world’s greatest Dolly Parton impersonator. After her act attracts the attentions of an amorous Elvis impersonator (Rose Byrne) and a powerful booking agent (Bobby Cannavale), Red is catapulted into the top tier of copycat acts, becoming the onstage and romantic partner of the top Kenny Rogers impersonator. But when Red’s life as an imitator starts to feel false, she discovers true happiness comes when you’re being the best version of yourself.

Special features include audio commentary with director Gracie Otto.

Chinese Dramedy ‘The Island’ and Korean Caper ‘The Swindlers’ Due on Blu-ray July 30 From Well Go

The quirky, Chinese dark dramedy The Island and the Korean crime caper The Swindlers will come out on digital and Blu-ray July 30 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Huang Bo’s directorial debut The Island follows an odd group of coworkers played by Huang Bo (Journey to the West), Shu Qi (The Assassin), Wang Baoqiang (Kung Fu Killer) and Zhang Yixing (Kung Fu Yoga), as they try to survive on a deserted island after being shipwrecked. News of a meteorite bound to strike the earth doesn’t have much effect on Ma Jin’s everyday life; he still gets up and goes to a job where he spends his time daydreaming of a romance with his colleague Shanshan, and of winning the lottery. But when this cataclysmic event occurs during a team-building trip, he finds himself shipwrecked on an island with an odd group of coworkers — and the winning lottery ticket in his pocket.

High stakes and fast talk are the game in the crime caper The Swindlers, which brings together an all-star cast (Yoo Ji-tae, Hyun Bin, Bae Seong-woo, Park Sung-woong, Nana) as unlikely allies from different sides of the law, working together to achieve their common goal — trapping the world’s most legendary con man.
