Netflix: ‘Don’t Look Up’ Second Most-Watched Original Movie Ever

Netflix’s dark comedy Don’t Look Up has quietly become the streamer’s No. 2 most-watched English-language movie ever, with more than 321 million hours streamed globally in the first 28 days. The film starring Jennifer Lawrence and Leonard DiCaprio now trails Netflix’s No. 1 movie, actioner Red Notice with 364 million hours.

Don’t Look Up continues to spearhead Netflix’s top 10 chart for the third straight week with 58.2 million hours across 94 countries for the period Jan. 3-9. The title bested newcomer Mother/Android with 29.7 million hours across 90 countries, followed by the second week showing of The Lost Daughter with 20.3 million hours across 42 countries.

Other top 10 charters included Back to the Outback with 12.4 million hours after five weeks, The Unforgivable with 11.3 million hours after five weeks, Red Notice with 11 million hours after nine weeks, Just Go With It with 10.35 million after two weeks, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island with 10.32 million hours after two weeks, Seal Team with 10 million, and The Longest Yard with 9.9 million, both after one week.

Among Netflix’s top 10 most-streamed English-language TV shows were season four of “Cobra Kai” with 107.8 million hours after two weeks, “Stay Close” with 91.1 million hours after two weeks, season two of “The Witcher” with 57.3 million hours after four weeks, season two of “Emily in Paris” with 50.5 million hours after three weeks, season one of “Manifest” with 30.1 million hours after seven weeks, season one of “The Witcher” with 28.5 million hours after five weeks, season one of “Cobra Kai” with 23.8 million hours after two weeks, season six of “Queer Eye” with 23 million hours after two weeks, season three of “Cobra Kai” with 20.1 million hours after one week, and season two of “Cobra Kai” with 19.3 million hours after one week.

Netflix’s dark comedy Don’t Look Up is now the streamer’s most-watched original program ever over a seven-day period. The Adam McKay-directed satire co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two low-level astronomers who attempt to alert the world about a deadly meteor hurtling toward earth.

The movie tracked more than 152 million hours streamed for the week of Dec. 27 to Jan. 2, 2022, making it Netflix’s third-most watched original program after 28 days — behind Sandra Bullock’s dystopian thriller Bird Box, and actioner Red Notice, co-starring Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson.

Indeed, the film, which also stars Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Ariana Grande and Tyler Perry, has generated more than 260 million hours streamed globally after just 11 days.

Netflix: ‘Don’t Look Up’ Again Dominates Weekly Streaming

The Netflix original movie Don’t Look Up dominated the streamer’s original programming for the week ended Jan. 2, with more than 152 million hours across 94 countries. The tally surpassed the opening week debut by 37% at 111 million hours.

Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett, the movie is about two low-level astronomers embarking on a global media tour to warn people about a planet-killing comet hurtling toward Earth.

The movie again dwarfed The Unforgivable, starring Sandra Bullock, which tracked more than 21.3 million hours in its fourth week of release. The drama, with 208.2 million hours, marks Bullock’s second movie after Bird Box (282 million hours) to rank among the streamer’s top 10 most-popular English-language films within its first 28 days of release.

Actioner Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, remains Netflix’s most-streamed English-language movie after 28 days of release with more than 364 million hours.

Other top-performing titles in the week included The Lost Daughter with 18.2 million hours; Back to the Outback (17.7 million); Red Notice (14.5 million); Spider-Man: Homecoming (14.1 million); Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (12.8 million); Death to 2021 (10.3 million); Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (5.44 million), and Spider-Man (5.43 million).
