Redbox Revs Up Streaming Presence With DMR Deal That Includes New Anime Channel

Redbox Aug. 11 announced it has signed a distribution agreement with DMR (www.digitalmediarights.com), a leading global distributor of feature films, television programs and documentaries.

The deal includes the launch of a new free streaming channel, “RetroCrush,” a leading independent anime streaming brand that serves up classic anime TV and movies 24 hours around the clock.

Redbox also will add hundreds of movies and TV series to its growing free ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) service.

The RetroCrush channel features a selection of classic anime TV series and movies, including “Street Fighter II: The Animated Series,” “Goku Midnight Eye” and “Demon City Shinjuku.” The channel joins the Redbox Free Live TV service, which has more than 100 free streaming channels that can be easily accessed via the Redbox app available on Roku, Vizio, Samsung, LG, Xbox, iOS, Android and others.

Redbox also features a free, ad-supported on demand (AVOD) section of its streaming service with thousands of titles available. New titles coming from DMR include “Street Fighter: The Animated Series,” “Great Teacher Onizuka,” “Flame of Recca” and “Astro Boy.”

Vizio Smart TVs Add ‘Midnight Pulp’ Horror, Thriller, Action Movies App

Vizio SmartCast Televisions have added the Midnight Pulp app, offering a mix of all things strange across the horror, thriller and action genres. Now SmartCast users have round-the-clock access to an expertly curated selection of cult and genre titles that include movies such as Ringu, Detective Chinatown and The Changeling.

Irvine, Calif.-based Vizio aims to use Midnight Pulp to build audience engagement via ad-supported video-on-demand and SVOD apps on Smart TVs, mobile and connected TV devices; on the web; and/or as linear, free ad supported television (FAST) channels.

It is one of seven OTT channels owned and operated by DMR that have become destinations for their respective genres and is now available as a streaming app on Vizio.
