‘Dolly Parton’ Celebration, ‘Nova Universe Revealed’ Among Titles Due on PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel in October

Dolly Parton & Friends: 50 Years at the Opry and Nova Universe Revealed are among the titles available on the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel in October.

Dolly Parton celebrates 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry in Dolly Partin & Friends: 50 Years at the Opry, streaming starting Oct. 22. Recorded live in Nashville, the special pays tribute to her songs and career with special performances from Parton and her star guests, including Lady A, Dierks Bentley, Candi Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, Chris Janson, Toby Keith, Margo Price and Hank Williams Jr. Capturing Parton delivering some of her biggest hits on one of the most iconic stages in the world, this celebration of the country music legend’s 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry features new interviews with Parton, guest appearances from some of her superstar friends and more.

Nova Universe Revealed starts streaming Oct. 28. In this five-part series, “Nova” delves into the vastness of space to capture moments of high drama when the universe changed forever. State-of-the-art animation delivers astonishing, photorealistic glimpses of the birth of the very first star, the chaos created as two galaxies collide, and the power of a supermassive black hole as it flings a star across space so violently that it’s still traveling millions of years later. “Nova” even takes viewers on the ultimate time travel voyage to witness the birth of space and time itself. Informed by huge advances in scientific understanding, this series brings viewers face-to-face with the most surprising characters in the cosmos and reveals how their fates are intertwined with their own.

Redbox Streaming TV Service Adds Country Lifestyle Platform

Redbox Feb. 4 announced the addition of Circle Network, an original country lifestyle programming channel, to its Free Live TV platform. Circle claims to carve out a niche category by connecting country fans to artists and artists to fans. Free Live TV is available on Roku, Vizio, LG, Xbox. iOS, Android, Redbox.com and more.

“It’s great to kick off this new year by partnering with our friends at Redbox. Their recognizable red kiosks deliver a source of entertainment to millions, and we are excited to be a part of Free Live TV,” Drew Reifenberger, GM of Circle Network, said in a statement. “Redbox’s audience is a perfect pairing for our original programming, which gives us the opportunity to bring even more fans inside the circle of everything country.”

Chris Yates, GM of Redbox On Demand, said the Grand Ole Opry is the heart of country music and Circle Network’s music programming underscores the venerable venue and some of country music’s most iconic names,

“We know that Circle Network will delight our audience,” Yates said.

Circle Network recently announced 2021 programming featuring new original series and renewed series. Recently earning the No. 1 spot on Pollstar’s Top 100 Livestreamers Chart across all genres, Circle’s “Opry Live” airs weekly on Saturday nights, bringing stars like Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, and Garth Brooks into viewers’ homes for a one-hour live performance. Country music star Phil Vassar returns for a third season of his “Songs From the Cellar,” where he invites close friends and celebrities from all walks of life into his cellar for great conversations and even better performances.

Additional titles available also include new series, “Opry Rewind,” hosted by Nan Kelley; “Jesus Calling: Stories of Faith,” with Lauren Alaina; “The Southern Weekend,” with Natalie Stovall; “Upstream,” with Elizabeth Cook; “The Dailey & Vincent Show,” with Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent, as well as award shows and more.

Redbox joins Circle’s growing list of AVOD providers, which also includes Roku, Samsung TV Plus, Vizio SmartCast and Comcast-owned Xumo.

Redbox Free Live TV can be streamed via Redbox.com, Roku, iOS and Android devices; Android TV, Vizio Smart TVs, LG TVs, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Chromecast. The service does not require a login, just download the app onto your favorite device, click “Free Live TV,” choose a channel, and start watching.

Time Life Issues First Blu-ray Disc Collection of Country Music Association Awards Highlights

Time Life has set a March 3 release date for CMA Awards Live Greatest Moments: 2008-2015, the first Blu-ray Disc installment in Time Life’s top-selling CMA Awards Live home entertainment line.

The collection will be available at a suggested retail price of $16.99, and features over two hours of country classics and collaborations from chart-topping acts.

This release will take audiences behind the scenes, thanks to interviews with artists and an interview with Robert Deaton, executive producer of the CMA Awards.

Featured performers include Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and more.

The Blu-ray Disc collection features several memorable collaborations, including “Coal Miner’s Daughter” by Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, and Loretta Lynn; “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” by Brooks & Dunn and Reba McEntire; “Tennessee Whiskey/Drink You Away” by Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake; and “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by Alan Jackson and George Strait.

Black Friday: Amazon Taking 50% Off New-Release Movies Through Dec. 5

Buried in the details of Amazon’s Black Friday (Nov. 29) deals is the e-commerce giant offering Prime members 50% off on all new-release movie purchases and rentals through Dec. 5.

Prime Video is also launching its first holiday-themed original content with the debut of “The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show” on Black Friday, which will be accompanied by an official country music soundtrack available on Amazon Music and other DSPs.
