Sony Celebrates Columbia 100th With Fan Quiz

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment has launched a genre-based personality quiz, which invites fans to dive into the legacy of some of the studio’s iconic features and series.

Created by Sony Pictures Digital Marketing in collaboration with Watson Design Group, the quiz has participants answer general interest questions, which when answered generate a custom personality type based on genre and a curated list of recommended Sony films and TV series. The quiz is designed to encourage the rediscovery of the studio’s expansive catalog of film and TV titles, according to the studio.

Users can participate in the quiz at, join the celebration using #ColumbiaPictures100 and follow along via Sony’s social media channels.

The results are shareable with friends and family across social media.

“Envisioning an experience where fans could not just watch but see themselves within our iconic titles, we designed a dynamic personality quiz that takes them on a captivating journey through our extensive library,” Rose Phillips, SVP, global digital marketing and social, Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in a statement. “This is a chance for fans to relive or rediscover our cherished titles, capturing a piece of our studio’s historic legacy to share on social media, and a fun way for fans to express their TV and movie interests while forging a deeper emotional bond during our fan-led celebration of the studio’s 100th anniversary.”

The quiz calls out movie titles such as Ghostbusters, Taxi Driver, Lawrence of Arabia, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Annie, Sleepless in Seattle, Funny Girl, Men in Black, and many more, as well as characters such as Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Walter White (“Breaking Bad”) and Jerry Maguire.

The quiz ties into the yearlong celebration of Columbia Pictures’ centennial. It follows the recent TikTok “My Life as a Movie” custom filter. Additionally, Columbia Pictures has released a celebratory video highlighting some of the best films and TV series.

The quiz launched on Feb. 8 in the United States, and was released globally with localized versions in an additional eight international markets.

Sony Celebrates Columbia Pictures’ 100th Anniversary With Disc, Digital Catalog Releases, Sales

In celebration of Columbia Pictures’ 100th anniversary, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment  will be presenting a variety of  catalog offerings throughout 2024, across the entire Sony Pictures Entertainment library of movies and TV shows.

January kicks off with both a physical disc sale at Amazon and  a “100 movies for $100” digital bundle.

The Amazon sale — featuring 4K Ultra HDs, Blu-rays and DVDs — begins on Jan. 10 and includes deals on major library titles such as Ghostbusters, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Lawrence of Arabia.

On Jan. 16, in addition to an overall digital movie sale, there will be a “100 movies for $100” digital bundle available at participating digital retailers, featuring such titles as The Lady From Shanghai, Tootsie, 2012 and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Consumers can visit for more information.

Sony Pictures Entertainment to Celebrate Columbia Pictures’ 100th Anniversary on Jan. 10, 2024

Sony Pictures Entertainment Nov. 14 unveiled the centennial logo for Columbia Pictures, ahead of its 100th year anniversary on Jan. 10, 2024.

The timeless form of the Columbia Pictures historic “Lady with the Torch” iconography inspired the 100th year logo design. An enhanced glow to the torch symbolizes the celebration of 100 years of Columbia Pictures, which grew from humble beginnings to become one of the leading film studios, renowned for producing award-winning and trailblazing films that reflected societal issues of the times. With the highest number of Academy Award Best Pictures wins, Columbia Pictures has entertained audiences for ten decades and continues to create cultural impact to this day.

“There is one thing that separates a major studio from all other content producers: history,” Tom Rothman, chairman/CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “At Columbia, that history is reflected in the countless cultural talismans created by thousands of people. All of us at Columbia are proud of that legacy and honored to celebrate it.”

In honor of the anniversary, publisher Assouline will release a commemorative book highlighting 100 moments of Columbia Pictures, and the studio will host festival screenings, live concerts of prominent film scores, and debut curated home entertainment products celebrating the scope of the studio’s library. Warner Bros. Unveils New Logo Ahead of Centennial Celebration

Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled its centennial logo to officially begin an extended rollout of activities leading up to and beyond the studio’s 100th Anniversary on April 4, 2023. The logo incorporates one of Southern California’s most recognizable landmarks, the Warner studio water tower.

“Throughout Warner Bros.’ history, its films and TV shows have been recognized as the gold standard of storytelling, and it was important to us to highlight the fact that telling stories that move the world is at the heart of everything we do,” Ann Sarnoff, Chair/CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group, said in a statement.

Starting at the end of this year, and throughout 2023, the centennial celebration will include a fully realized, fan-focused campaign involving every division of the studio — film, series, consumer products, video games, themed entertainment, studio tours and live events — as well as its studios and networks sister companies, including HBO Max, the TNets (TNT, TBS and truTV), WarnerMedia Kids, Young Adults & Classics (including WB Animation, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network and TCM) and others.
