Cinedigm Ups Distribution of Asian-Themed Action Movies

Indie distributor Cinedigm Jan. 10 announced a partnership with Crimson Forest Films to distribute the latter’s Asian-themed titles across all home entertainment channels, including DVD/Blu-ray Disc/4K, digital platforms, cable and satellite VOD and broadcast television.

The new partnership covers North America and, for select titles, international territories as well.

The pact underscores Cinedigm’s recent infusion of funds from Hong Kong-based Bison Entertainment Investment, a subsidiary of China-based Bison Capitol Holding Limited.

Bison Capitol’s $30 million investment last summer made the investment company a majority stakeholder of Cinedigm.

The Crimson Forest deal affords Cinedigm a library of Asian content for its over-the-top (OTT) digital networks, including CONtv.

“Crimson Forest is quickly becoming the premium, go-to label for truly exciting genre pictures with strong production values and talent immediately recognizable to fanboys and fangirls everywhere,” Yolanda Macias, EVP of acquisitions for Cinedigm, said in a statement.

The first release under the deal will be the Hong Kong-Chinese action thriller, Shockwave, which stars Hong Kong action star Andy Lau, as a bomb disposal specialist battling a criminal mastermind.

The movie generated $58M in 2017 global box office revenue. Cinedigm released the title Jan. 2 on DVD/Blu-ray and digital.

Cinedigm will also release the Hong Kong actioner, Extraordinary Mission on Feb. 6.  Crimson Forest previously released title theatrically last spring in limited markets in the U.S.

Cinedigm releases The Tag-Along Collection, featuring Taiwan’s highest grossing horror film and sequel, on digital Feb. 6, and on DVD in April.  Cinedigm will also release the sci-fi, time-traveling epic, Kung Fu Traveler, starring international martial arts champion Tiger Chen, in April.
