Adventure ‘The Book of Clarence’ Headed to Digital Feb. 6

The religious-themed adventure The Book of Clarence will be released for digital rental and sale Feb. 6 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The film has earned $5.9 million at the global box office.

In the film, streetwise but struggling, Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield) is trying to find a better life for himself and his family, make himself worthy to the woman he loves, and prove that he’s not a nobody. Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and his apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, a journey through which he finds redemption and faith, power and knowledge.

‘Wonka’ Headed to Premium Digital Jan. 30, Disc Feb. 27

The adventure Wonka debuts for premium digital purchase and rental on Jan. 30, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Feb. 27.

The film has earned more than $544.2 million at the global box office.

Based on the iconic character at the center of Roald Dahl’s children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, introduces audiences to a young Willy Wonka, as he becomes the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker.

Starring alongside Chalamet are Calah Lane, Emmy and Peabody Award winner Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Hugh Grant.

Chinese Animated Adventure ‘I Am T-Rex’ Due Digitally and on Disc June 20 From Well Go

The Chinese animated fantasy adventure I Am T-Rex debuts on digital, Blu-ray and DVD June 20 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

In the film, after a power-hungry dinosaur from outside the valley attacks the king of dinosaurs by surprise, a young T-Rex escapes and begins to train, vowing never to return until he is the biggest and bravest in all the land — and finally strong enough to challenge the evil Fang and restore peace to Green Valley.

Directed by Cai Shangming and Chen Silin, I Am T-Rex features a new English dub.

Animated Adventure ‘Mummies’ Due Digitally April 7

The animated adventure Mummies will be available to own digitally April 7 from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment.

The film follows the adventures of three ancient Egyptian mummies who live in an underground secret city, hidden in ancient Egypt. The trio includes a princess, a former charioteer, and his younger brother, along with their pet baby crocodile. Through a series of unfortunate events, the mummies end up in present-day London and embark on a wacky journey in search of an old ring belonging to the Royal Family, which was stolen by the ambitious archaeologist Lord Carnaby.

From Spanish director Juan Jesús García Galocha, the film’s voice cast includes Joe Thomas (“The Inbetweeners,” “White Gold”), Eleanor Tomlinson (“The Nevers,” Jack the Giant Slayer, The Illusionist), Santiago Winder (“The Hope Rooms”), Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Dan Starkey (“Doctor Who”), Hugh Bonneville (Paddington, “Downton Abbey,” Notting Hill), singer, songwriter and record producer Shakka, and Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones,” The Martian, “The Lord of the Rings”).

The script was co-written by Jordi Gasull and Javier Barreira, Goya Award winners for Best Screenplay for Tad: The Lost Explorer. Emmy Award-winning screenwriter Ricky Roxburgh (“Tangled: The Series”) supported the English language adaptation of the script. Gasull, winner of three Goya Awards for Best Animated Film for Tad: The Lost Explorer, Capture the Flag and Tad, The Lost Explorer, and The Secret of King Midas, is also the film’s producer. Pedro Solis, writer/director of the Goya Award winning animated short film “Strings,” is behind the film as head of Core Animation Sudio.

The film’s music is composed by Goya Award winner Fernando Velazquez. The film features three original songs, including “I Am Today,” “New Song” and “Ring Song.” The latter features lyrics by writer/producer Jordi Gasull.

Chinese Films ‘The Sparring Partner,’ ‘Too Cool to Kill’ Among Titles Available Digitally From Well Go

Available now through digital retailers from Well Go USA Entertainment are the Chinese crime thriller The Sparring Partner, the Chinese comedy Too Cool to Kill, the Greek adventure thriller Short Fuse, and the Korean court drama Herstory.

The Sparring Partner is based on actual events. In the film, after a man murders his parents with the help of a friend, the truth proves difficult to untangle in court, leaving the jury to wrestle with their own ideas of right and wrong as two men’s lives lay in the balance. Directed by Ho Cheuk-tin, the film stars Alan Yeung, Mak Pui-tung, Louisa So, Michael Chown and Jan Lamb.

 

In Too Cool to Kill, while pursuing his lifelong dream of landing a starring role, amateur actor Wei Chenggong (Wei Xiang) receives an invitation from famous actress Milan (Ma Li) to play her leading man, “Killer Karl.” However, unbeknownst to Mr. Wei, the new gig has landed him directly in the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. As the brutal truth inches closer and closer, he is left to rely on only his good luck and (somewhat questionable) acting skills to survive. Directed by Wenxiong Xing and Ru Qian, the film stars Li Ma, Xiang Wei and Minghao Chen.

 

In the ticking clock action-thriller Short Fuse, a courier’s last delivery of the day may also be the last day of his life. Strapped with explosives, he must fight for his life while trying to solve a mystery involving both his family and a criminal empire. Directed by Andreas Lampropoulos and Kostas Skiftas, the film stars Apostolis Totsikas, Tasos Nousias and Evgenia Dimitropoulou.

Herstory is based on the story of 10 Korean women fighting for a formal apology from the Japanese government for their horrific ordeal as WWII “comfort women.” In the film, after learning of the horrors her housekeeper faced during forced sexual servitude as a WWII “comfort woman,” a Korean businesswoman takes on the Japanese government in a trial seeking reparations and a formal apology for ten plaintiffs. Directed by Kyu-dong Min, the film stars Kim Hee-ae, Kim Hae-sook, Ye Soo-jung, Moon Sook, Lee Yong-nyeo and Kim Sun-young.

1991 Sci-Fi Actioner ‘The Grand Tour’ Due on DVD and Blu-ray March 14 From Unearthed and MVD

The 1991 sci-fi action-adventure The Grand Tour will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc (sporting a new 4K scan from the negative) from Unearthed Classics and MVD Entertainment Group.

Directed by David Twohy (Pitch Black, The Arrival), the film follows a widowed innkeeper (Jeff Daniels ) who battles a band of disaster-groupies from the future with explosive results. Ben Wilson (Daniels) and his daughter (Ariana Richards) buy an old Victorian mansion and begin renovations with plans to open up an inn. Their first guests are a strange and mysterious covey of tourists led by the eccentric Madame Lovine (Marilyn Lightstone). In a race against time, Ben must battle the seductive time bandits as well as his own personal demons in an attempt to save his daughter and the town from total destruction.

Thriller ‘Frost’ Due on Blu-ray and DVD Oct. 11 From Cleopatra and MVD

The thriller Frost will be released on Blu-ray (plus CD) and DVD Oct. 11 from Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Entertainment Group.

In the film from writer James Cullen Bressack (Hot Seat, Fortress) and director Brandon Slagle (Crossbreed), a young woman, Abby (Devanny Pinn, Ride Along 2), and her estranged father, Grant (Vernon Wells, Commando), fight to survive after being stranded on a remote mountainside during a winter storm.

The action adventure Kingdom of the Dinosaurs is being released on DVD Sept. 6 from Uncork’d Entertainment and Distribution Solutions. 

In the film set in 2030 during World War III, a small group of survivors make it into a bunker. Two years later they have to exit to find new supplies, but they are greeted by dinosaur predators.

Directed by Scott Jeffrey, the film stars Mark Haldor, Darcie Rose, Chelsea Greenwood, Chrissie Wunna, Stephen Staley and Clint Gordon.

The family adventure Guardians of Time will be released via on demand, digital and DVD Oct. 11 from Lionsgate.

In the film, when Sybil, her kid sister Alex, and two cousins discover a magical book in the family manor, it opens a hidden door into the forest of Keoherus. As the powerful Warriors Four, the girls must now locate secret temples and solve intricate puzzles to gather crystals that will allow them to control time. When Alex is captured by an evil force, they must rescue her and find a way home — or stay trapped in Keoherus forever.

Family Adventure ‘Ghoster’ Available via Digital and DVD Oct. 11

The family adventure Ghoster will be released Oct. 11 via on demand and for digital purchase from Lionsgate. A DVD will be available exclusively at Walmart.

In the film, Elizabeth and her father inherit a nearby estate — but find it haunted by a kindly young phantom named Ghoster. He begs for Elizabeth’s help undoing an ancient dragon’s curse that has trapped him in the manor. Joined by the caretaker’s handsome son Mateo, they must enter a magical painting and solve dangerous puzzles to undo the hex and free the trapped souls of Ghoster’s ancestors.
