Netflix and MGM/UA Announce New Series About Wednesday Addams

Netflix and MGM/UA Feb. 17 announced a new live-action coming-of-age comedy called “Wednesday,” about the gleefully morose girl from “The Addams Family” series.

The pilot will mark director Tim Burton’s television directorial debut.

The eight-episode series, from creator/show runners Al Gough and Miles Millar, is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships with the strange and diverse student body.

Paramount Re-Releasing ‘Addams Family’ Movies on Disc

Paramount Home Entertainment will re-release the “Addams Family” movies on Blu-ray and DVD Oct. 1 (order date Aug. 20).

Based on the comic strip by Charles Addams and the 1964 TV series, 1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s Addams Family Values will be available separately and in DVD and Blu-ray two-packs.

This marks the first Blu-ray release for Addams Family Values.

The movies star Raul Julia and Gomez Addams, Anjelica Huston as Morticia, Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester, and Christine Ricci as Wednesday.

An animated Addams Family movie will arrive in theaters Oct. 11 from MGM.
