‘Strays’ Tops Redbox Disc Rentals; ‘Meg 2’ No. 1 on Digital Chart

Universal Pictures’ Strays debuted at No. 1 on the Redbox disc rental chart the week ended Oct. 15.

The raunchy comedy follows a pack of foul-mouthed dogs as one of them seeks to return home to avenge his owner abandoning him.

The previous week’s top disc rental, Universal Pictures’ Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, dropped to No. 2 on the Redbox disc rental chart,which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s thousands of red kiosks. It slipped a spot to No. 3 on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions.

Down a spot to No. 3 on the disc rental chart was Universal’s Fast X. The “Fast & Furious” sequel remained No. 4 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

The No. 4 disc rental was Screen Media’s The Bell Keeper, a horror film about a group of friends who travel to a secluded campsite to film a documentary and discover something much more sinister than they could have ever imagined. The film is available on disc early at Redbox kiosks.

Rounding out the top five disc rentals was Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4, down two spots from the previous week.

The top title on the Redbox On Demand chart was Warner’s Meg 2: The Trench, grabbing the top spot after a couple of months of digital availability.

Down a spot to No. 2 was Asylum’s The Exorcists, a horror film about three experts hired by a father to purge his possessed son who learn the demon is merely the gatekeeper to a true evil that will be unleashed if they fail.

The No. 5 digital title was Universal’s extended cut of Halloween Kills.
